Top 12 Indian batsmen with most centuries in T20I cricket
Five Indian batsmen have hit multiple centuries in T20I cricket.
The Indian cricket team are a powerhouse of international cricket. The Asian country has produced a spate of highly talented and skilled cricketers who have established their legacy in Indian cricketing history.
India are one of the strongest sides in the world across all three formats. When we talk about T20I cricket, the Men in Blue played their first-ever T20I match in 2006 against South Africa.
Since then, India have recorded the most number of T20I wins in the world, and have clinched two T20 World Cup titles. This has come on the back of several great batsmen. These batters have scored runs consistently and have uplifted India’s status globally as a world-beating T20I unit.
As many as 12 Indian batsmen have recorded centuries in T20Is. On that note, let’s take a look at the Indian batters with most centuries in T20I cricket.
Top 12 Indian batters with most centuries in T20Is:
11. Shubman Gill – 1
Since making his international debut, Shubman Gill has been a consistent performer for India and has gradually cemented his place in the first-choice XI across the three formats.
Talking about T20I cricket, Gill made his debut in 2023. The youngster has played 21 matches so far and scored 578 runs. The right-handed batter has one century to his name in the shortest format, which came against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in February 2023.
10. Suresh Raina – 1
Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina was the first ever Indian batsman to hit a century in T20Is. Raina smashed his maiden T20I ton during the ICC T20 World Cup 2010 in a game against South Africa.
Raina is the only Indian batsman to hit a century in the ICC T20 World Cup till now. In his career, the left-hander amassed 1605 runs in 78 T20Is, with one ton and five half-centuries.
9. Virat Kohli – 1
Former India captain Virat Kohli has hammered one century in T20Is. The 35-year-old notched up his maiden T20I ton during the Asia Cup match against Afghanistan in 2022.
Kohli announced his T20I retirement after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June 2024 in Barbados. The great batter amassed 4188 runs in 125 matches at a staggering average of 48.69. Apart from a century, Kohli cracked 38 T20I half-centuries.
8. Yashasvi Jaiswal – 1
Since making his test and T20I debut, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been recognized as one of the future superstars of Indian cricket. The youngster has now become a regular part of India’s test team and has done well in his chances in the T20Is as well.
The 22-year-old youngster has made 723 runs in 23 T20Is, including five fifties and one century. Jaiswal’s only T20I ton came during the Asian Games Men’s Cricket Competition in 2023 against Nepal in China.
7. Deepak Hooda – 1
Middle-order batter Deepak Hooda smashed his maiden T20I ton against Ireland in Dublin in 2022.
So far, the right-handed batter has played 21 T20Is and scored 368 runs at a decent average of 30.66. However, Hooda has lost his place in the side.
6. Ruturaj Gaikwad – 1
Ruturaj Gaikwad made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2021. Since then, the youngster has played 23 matches and scored 633 runs at an average of 39.56 with four fifties and one century.
Gaikwad recorded his maiden hundred against Australia in November 2023 in Guwahati.
6. Abhishek Sharma – 1
Abhishek Sharma had a dream run with the bat for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The left-handed batter played with an aggressive approach and finished with the most sixes in the tournament.
After performing well in the IPL 2024, Abhishek earned his maiden India T20I call-up for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe in July. After getting out on a duck on his debut, the youngster bounced back well and smashed his maiden T20I ton in his second game.
5. N Tilak Varma – 2
Young left-handed batter N Tilak Varma has two hundreds to his name in T20I cricket. His first T20I ton came against South Africa in Centurion in November 2024. Batting at No. 3, Tilak smashed 107 off 56 deliveries, which included eight fours and seven sixes. In the very next match, he smashed another ton at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium to become second Indian after Sanju Samson to hit two consecutive centuries in T20Is.
4. KL Rahul – 2
KL Rahul has scored two T20I centuries in his career. His first ton was an impressive 110* against the West Indies in 2016 and Rahul notched up his second T20I hundred against England in 2018.
Rahul, however, finds himself out of the T20I side now. He has featured in 72 T20Is so far.
3. Sanju Samson – 3
Indian wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson made his T20I debut when he was 20 years old in 2015 against Zimbabwe, but had to wait around eight years to earn a solid run in the T20I setup.
Sanju Samson has so far hit three centuries in his T20I career. His first one came against Bangladesh in Hyderabad when India piled 297 runs. His second T20I hundred came in his very next match against South Africa in Durban. He was the first Indian batter to hit consecutive T20I hundreds. Samson’s third T20I ton came against South Africa in 2024.
2. Suryakumar Yadav – 4
Suryakumar Yadav has blasted four hundreds in the shortest international format so far. His four centuries are the second-most number of T20I hundreds in the world.
Suryakumar’s maiden T20I ton came against England in 2022 and his second T20I century was against New Zealand in 2022. In the next year, Suryakumar played a terrific knock of 112* against Sri Lanka, which was his third T20I ton. In the same year, Suryakumar notched up his fourth T20I ton against South Africa in Johannesburg.
Three of Yadav’s four T20I centuries have come outside India.
1. Rohit Sharma – 5
Legendary opener and former India captain Rohit Sharma has scored the most T20I centuries for India. Rohit hit five hundreds in his iconic T20I career. He has the joint-most T20I centuries in the world, tied with Glenn Maxwell.
Rohit’s first T20I century came against South Africa in 2015 and his second hundred was against Sri Lanka in 2017. The veteran batter registered his third ton against England in 2018. Rohit’s fourth century came against the West Indies in 2018 and his fifth century was against Afghanistan in 2024.
After winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June, Sharma announced his retirement from T20I cricket. Rohit played 159 matches T20Is, in which he amassed 4231 runs, with 32 half-centuries and five centuries.
