Top 5 Indian batsmen with most test runs against England in England

Four Indian batsmen have hammered more than 1000 test runs in England.
The Indian Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team share a long history in test cricket. Both teams faced each other for the first time in 1932 and have played 136 games so far. Out of these, India won 35 matches while England clinched victories in 51 games. 50 encounters ended in a draw.
The Indian Cricket Team have a poor record in England. Out of 67 tests, they have won just nine games and lost 36 encounters, while 22 matches ended in a draw. However, the visitors bagged test series victories on three instances in 1971, 1986, and 2007.
If we look at the top five Indian batsmen with the most test runs in England, four have hammered more than 1000 runs. Moreover, all of them have retired from the longest format of the game. On that note, let’s look at the top five Indian batsmen with most test runs against England in England.

5. Dilip Vengsarkar- 960
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar captures the fifth spot on this list with 960 runs at an average of 48 in 13 tests that he played on English soil. The right-handed batsman, who represented India in 116 tests, stormed four centuries and an equal number of half-centuries.
4. Virat Kohli- 1096
Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, who retired from the test format recently, mustered 1096 runs against England in England. The right-handed batter held a batting average of 33.21 in 17 games, including two centuries and five half-centuries across 33 innings. The former India skipper gave an impeccable batting show in the 2018 tour, smacking 593 runs in five games to win the Player of the Series award.
3. Sunil Gavaskar- 1152
Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar grabs the third place with 1152 runs on English soil. The batting great owned a stunning average of 41.14 in 28 innings across 16 tests, hitting two centuries and eight half-centuries. The former India captain also slammed a double century (221) at The Oval in August 1979.
2. Rahul Dravid- 1376
Former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid held an impressive record in England, smacking 1376 runs in 23 innings at an average of 68.80. With the highest test knock of 217, Dravid also hit six centuries and four fifties across 13 games.
The right-handed batsman visited England on four occasions and gave his best performance in the 2002 tour, where he mustered 602 runs across four games at an outstanding batting average of 100.33 with three centuries.
1. Sachin Tendulkar- 1575
Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar steals the top spot as he is the most successful Indian batter in England against the hosts. The right-hander slammed 1575 runs in 30 innings with a fabulous batting average of 54.31. In 17 tests, Tendulkar scored four tons and eight half-centuries with a top knock of 193 at Headingley, Leeds in August 2002.
