Former Indian pacer Syed Abid Ali picked a four-wicket haul against England at Old Trafford during a test match in 1971. During second match of the three-match series, England piled up 386/10 in the first innings with a century by Ray Illingworth.

Abid Ali clinched 4/64 in the first innings. Later, India were bowled out for 212 runs. Declaring at 245/3 in the second innings, England set a target of 420 runs for India. The match ended in a draw with India reaching 65/3 on day four. The final day was washed out due to rain.

4. Surendra Nath – 5/115

Former medium pacer Surendra Nath hunted a five-wicket haul at Old Trafford, Manchester. India and England clashed at the stadium in fourth test of the five-match series in 1959. With centuries by Mike Smith and Geoff Pullar, England posted 490/10 in the first innings.

Surendra Nath clinched 5/115 during his spell. However, his bowling spell went in vain as India lost the match. India were bowled out for 208 runs in the first innings.

With 265/8d in the second innings, England set a gigantic target of 548 for India. Despite centuries by Abbas Ali Baig and Polly Umrigar in the second innings, India were bundled for 376 and lost the clash by 171 runs.

3. Vinoo Mankad – 5/101

Former Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad also registered a five-wicket haul against England in Manchester. During a test match in 1946, England were bowled out for 294 runs in the first innings. Vinoo Mankad clinched five wickets for 101 runs in the first innings.

India were then bowled out for 170 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, Mankad picked two wickets as England declared their innings at 153/5. India had a target of 278 runs; however, they finished with 152/9, and the match ended in a draw.

2. Lala Amarnath – 5/96

During the Manchester test between England and India in 1946, Lala Amarnath also picked a five-wicket haul against England. He scalped five wickets for 96 runs during his spell in the first innings. Amarnath and Mankad clinched five wickets each to bundle out England for 294 in the first innings. In the second innings, Amarnath captured three wickets while Mankad got two wickets.

Former Indian spinner Dilip Doshi holds the record for best bowling figures by an Indian bowler in test cricket at Old Trafford, Manchester. During second test of the three-match series in 1982, England piled up425/10 in the first innings with a century by Ian Botham.

Dilip Doshi clinched six wickets for 102 runs in the first innings. Later, India posted 379/8 in the first innings with a century by Sandeep Patil. The encounter ended in a draw with day five getting washed out due to rain.
