Shreyas Iyer was appointed India’s new T20I Captain in 2026, replacing Suryakumar Yadav. He scored his first half-century as captain of the Indian T20I team on July 1, 2026. It was in the series opener against England at Chester-le-Street.

He scored 68 runs off 47 balls, being the highest run-scorer from India in that innings. Ultimately, the match had to be called off due to rain, but the Men in Blue had scored 189 runs in the first innings, while the second innings was washed out.

4. Virat Kohli – 73* runs (2021)

Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 73 off 49 balls in the second T20I between India and England in Ahmedabad, when England were on tour to India. This innings was played when the team was chasing a target of 165 runs. India had already lost the first T20I of the series and needed a win in the second match.

He remained unbeaten till the end, and finished the chase comfortably within 18 overs. Ishan Kishan was the Player of the Match for his blistering half-century on debut.

3. Virat Kohli – 77* runs (2021)

Kohli played a magnificent innings of 77* off 49 balls in the 3rd IND vs ENG T20I 2021 at Ahmedabad. He helped the team post 156 runs on the board, being the highest run-scorer for India in that innings.

However, this knock proved in vain, as England chased down the target with ease and India lost the match. This remains the third-highest individual score by an Indian captain against England in T20Is.

2. Virat Kohli – 80* runs (2021)

While captaining the Men in Blue in the T20I bilateral series against England in 2021, Virat Kohli scored 80 runs. In the 5th IND vs ENG T20I, the series decider, Virat scored 80* off 52 balls and guided India to 224 runs in the first innings.

India won the match by 36 runs and also clinched the T20I series 3-2. Virat was awarded the Player of the Series for scoring 231 runs in the campaign and registering three iconic scores.

Shreyas Iyer registered the highest T20I score by an Indian captain against England on July 9, scoring 80* off 49 deliveries, being the only Indian batter to score more than 25 runs in the match. He hit 5 sixes and four boundaries. Ultimately, India posted 158 on the board.

The captain’s innings went in vain as England chased down the target in just 14 overs and clinched the series.
