The Indian cricket team played their first Day/Night test match in 2019.
The Day/Night test match format was launched in 2015 by the ICC with the aim of increasing viewership in test cricket as the third session of the day would be played in the prime time of around 7 pm local time.
It is played with a pink ball as other colors – red, orange, and yellow, which have been tried – are difficult to spot under lights.
The BCCI took their time to assess the Day/Night test match format and organized its first such test in 2019. The Indian cricket team have a good record so far in the pink-ball tests.
