The Indian cricket team lost the three-match ODI series to Sri Lanka 2-0.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team suffered an embarrassing series loss at the hands of Sri Lanka as they failed to win a single match of the three-game ODI series in Colombo.

On the spin-friendly R. Premadasa Stadium, the hosts spinners ran riot on the Indian batters to claim the series 2-0, with one game ending in a tie.

This was also the first series loss for the new head coach Gautam Gambhir, whose decision to shuffle up India’s batting order in all three matches has come under heavy criticism.

This was the first time Sri Lanka defeated India in a bilateral ODI series since 1997.

Although the Indian cricket team were missing a few stars in Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami, the malfunction of the batting department in all three games is hugely concerning.

The SL vs IND ODI series was a crucial juncture in India’s preparations for the Champions Trophy 2025. The Men In Blue now have only one series left before the tournament.

The SL vs IND ODI series was the last ODI series for India in 2024. India’s next ODI series will be in February 2025, when they will host England for a three-match ODI series from February 6 to 12 just before the Champions Trophy, which will most probably kick off on February 19.

England will tour India for five T20Is and three ODIs in January-February 2025.
