Sri Lanka had proposed a six-match white ball tour to Indian Cricket Team.
The Indian Cricket Team’s rumored tour to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series in August is confirmed to be not happening. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had hoped to utilize a gap in scheduling for both teams, especially after India’s tour to Bangladesh in August 2025 was postponed to 2026.
The original schedule had India playing six white-ball matches in Bangladesh from August 17 to 31, 2025. However, this series was postponed to the following year, with both cricket boards citing international commitments and scheduling convenience as the primary reasons for the deferment.
However, the political tensions between both sides and the sentiment of Indian fans led to both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) deciding to postpone the series to 2026, when things had simmered down.
After India’s trip to Bangladesh was canceled, the SLC reportedly approached the BCCI with a request to host a six-match white-ball series in August 2025. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might’ve made their comeback to international cricket action with the planned series, which would consist of three ODIs and three T20Is.
BCCI gives Indian team players complete rest for August with the Asia Cup on the horizon; no Sri Lanka tour
In August, India will not travel to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series. According to reports, the BCCI has granted the Indian squad a rare “complete rest” following a taxing five-match test series in England. As a result, the squad will only play international cricket again in September for the Asia Cup.
“The players requested a break after the England series. There is a hectic international schedule for India from Sept, which also involves going to Australia for a white-ball series in Oct,” sources were quoted by the Times of India.
This will also mean that the return of veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has also been delayed. India’s next task will be 2025 Asia Cup, which will start on September 9 in the UAE in T20I format, as there are no bilateral series planned prior to the Asia Cup.
In order to witness Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in action, fans will have to wait until October 2025. Only ODIs keep both players active. On March 9, 2025, they participated in their most recent international encounter in the ICC Champions Trophy final.
India’s three-match ODI series in Australia, which is set for October 19 in Perth, October 23 in Adelaide, and October 25 in Sydney, is confirmed to include Kohli and Rohit. A five-match T20I series will begin on October 29 after this.
