Mohammed Shami to return? Indian Cricket Team 15-member squad for ODI tour of Australia - Predicted

Indian Cricket Team are set to tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is, starting on October 19.
Indian Cricket Team are currently engaged in a two-match test series against the West Indies, which will end on October 14. Once this series is over, India will fly Australia for eight white-ball matches, starting on October 19.
The India’s tour to Australia will begin with three ODIs, and captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be in action for the first time in Indian colours since ICC Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year.
Some big names are expected to be back, and it will be a full-strength squad. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is likely to make his comeback as well. On that note, let’s take a look at what would be the 15-member squad for the ODI leg of the tour.
Indian Cricket Team 15-member squad for ODI tour of Australia – Predicted
1. Rohit Sharma (C)

Rohit Sharma will be back leading the side. The ODI captain has started his preparation and also passed the fitness test. He will be back in the Indian colours to lead the side after ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph.
2. Shubman Gill (Vc)

Shubman Gill is an integral part of the Indian ODI side. He has been playing consistent cricket and is among the all-format players for India. Gill will continue his role of vice-captain for the upcoming ODI series in Australia. He is also in good form, and he will be sharing the opening duties with Rohit Sharma.
3. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is currently in London and is expected to be joining the Indian squad soon to prepare for the upcoming ODI assignments. Just like Rohit, he has also retired from the other two formats to focus on the ODIs. His presence in the team will surely be a big positive for the broadcasters as well.
4. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer was India’s leading scorer during ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and has been in great form across formats. But as he has requested the BCCI for a break from red-ball cricket, he is expected to be drafted in the ODI squad. He has performed well at four, and with his experience of playing in Australia, he is likely to get a place in the squad.
5. KL Rahul (Wk)

KL Rahul has been India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in ODIs, and he has grabbed every opportunity with both hands. Rahul has shown great form with the bat in ODIs and tests, and his experience of playing on Australian pitches will benefit the team.
6. Rishabh Pant (wk)

Rishabh Pant is currently recovering from injury and is not part of the ongoing home test series against West Indies. But he is likely to get fit for the Australia tour. Hence, he is expected to get into the ODI squad as a backup wicket-keeper. Pant is someone who can be used as a floater, which will be a luxury to have for the Indian management.
7. Hardik Pandya

India’s premier all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, will be one of the top players to feature in the Australia ODIs. His experience and match-winning ability make him a crucial part of the Indian ODI squad. So, we will see him doing some amazing things in Australia.
8. Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Kumar Reddy impressed everyone the last time he visited Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. He showed that he has the ability to change the game with bat and ball. India are also grooming him for the future, and the pitches in Australia possibly suiting his style, he is expected to get into the ODI squad.
9. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja will be among the players who will be back in the ODI side. His experience and success in Australia make him the right prospect to feature in the upcoming series. He has become more reliable with the bat, and his bowling has always been top-class. Jadeja’s availability in the squad gives India a great balance as well.
10. Washington Sundar

Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement has opened gates for Washington Sundar. India have given him consistent chances, and he has been pretty impressive as well. Sundar will be the backup spin all-rounder and might get a game as well.
11. Kuldeep Yadav

It is very tough to get into the Indian squad, but a bowler with the ability of Kuldeep Yadav can’t be ignored. He is a match-winner in this format and knows his game in and out. He is someone who can turn the ball on any surface, and with Australian batters always having a slight weakness against a bowler of his kind, he will be a key player in the squad.
12. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah’s availablity will totally depend on how the BCCI wants to use him. He played in Asia Cup 2025 and is part of the ongoing test series against West Indies. But because it is an important tour, India will be keen to take Bumrah for ODIs. So, he will be the leader of the Indian pace attack in the Australia ODIs.
13. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj has been in the form of his life and is making the ball talk. His form in the past few months has been top-notch. India have not picked him for T20Is, which indicates that he might be used in the other two formats. So, Siraj is expected to get a place in the upcoming ODIs in Australia.
14. Mohammed Shami

We might see Mohammed Shami making a comeback in the Indian team during the ODI series. Shami was out for more than a year and returned to the Indian side earlier this year for ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which was played in ODI format, his forte.
With him not getting selected in test squad lacking match readiness, ODIs might be a gateway for him to return to Indian cricket in full swing. For an important tour like Australia, the management is expected to bring his experience into play. Hence, we might see Shami getting his much-awaited chance to play for India again.
15. Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh has been among the front-runners when it comes to being a backup pacer for India in SENA countries. He has been a great addition to T20Is and is India’s leading wicket-taker in the shortest format. Arshdeep gives India a good left-arm bowling option, which has become a rarity for India at the highest level.
