Indian Cricket Team playing XI for test series against England - Predicted

Indian Cricket Team will be captained by Shubman Gill on England tour.
The Indian Cricket Team is all set to lock horns with the England Cricket Team in a five-match series. The two teams will also kick-start the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2025-27. The series will begin on 20th July with the first test at Headingley, Leeds and will conclude with the fifth test, which will start on July 31 at Kia Oval, London.
The five-test series against England Cricket Team will also mark the beginning of a new era in Indian cricket. The retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will no doubt leave a massive void in the team, but it will also be an opportunity for someone new to stamp their authority on international cricket.
Shubman Gill will be leading the team after he was named as the new captain of the Indian Cricket Team in tests. The series also will be a big one for him as he will have a point to prove, especially with his record in the overseas conditions not so great.
As the test series is around the corner, we take a look at Indian Cricket Team’s predicted playing XI for the test series against England:
1). Yashasvi Jaiswal

There is no brainer that Yashasvi Jaiswal will be opening the innings for the Indian Cricket Team. The left-hander arguably has been one of the best test batters for the team in recent times and has been scoring truckloads of runs as well. He also featured in the first unofficial test against England Lions and slammed a vital half-century while opening.
2.) KL Rahul

Jaiswal is expected to be partnered by KL Rahul at the top. The right-hander has been playing in the team without a defined batting position and has performed all the jobs given to him, batting at any position. But with no Rohit Sharma around and him doing a great job in Australia, Rahul is expected to get a long rope as an opener.
3.) Sai Sudharsan
At three, the Indian Cricket Team is likely to hand a debut to Sai Sudharsan. The left-hander has been one of the consistent performers in the domestic circuit and also showed great promise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Playing for the Gujarat Titans (GT), he slammed 759 runs and won the Orange Cup. His red-ball record, too, has been decent, and he also has one county ton to his name, which is likely to work in his favour.
4.) Shubman Gill (C)

Skipper Shubman Gill might take the spot of Virat Kohli in the test side. The right-hander batted at three for a long time in the longest format of the game, but with Sudharsan there, he is expected to go spot down. Gill has a decent record in tests, but he would be keen to make the England tour his best, as his last fifty outside India came during the Gabba test in 2021 against Australia.
5.) Karun Nair
Karun Nair is also expected to make a comeback in the Indian XI. The Vidarbha batter was recalled into the team after eight long years, and he would want to seal his place in the team. He almost locked his place in the XI after he slammed a terrific double ton for India A in the first unofficial test against the England Lions.
6.) Rishabh Pant (WK)
Vice-captain Rishabh Pant is expected to take the number six spot. The keeper-batter has been India’s best batter in the tests over the last few years. He has been slamming crucial runs in overseas conditions and often has bailed the team out of trouble. He also returned to form in Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) last game, where he slammed a brutal century.
7.) Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is expected to be one of the all-rounders in the Indian cricket team for the test series against England. He will be serving as the only spinner in the team as well and is also likely to play a crucial role with the bat.
8.) Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Kumar Reddy will be there as a seam-bowling all-rounder in the Indian Cricket Team XI. He played a vital role for the team in the tests against Australia, where he slammed a century in the Melbourne test. He didn’t bowl much in the last series, but with conditions being favourable for bowling in England, he will be handy for the side.
9.) Jasprit Bumrah
The Indian pace battery for the five-match test series will be led by Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer is the leader of the bowling attack and played a major role in the Australia series. But, he won’t be playing all the games due to the workload management and is expected to play around 3-4 games.
10.) Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj is likely to be the second-choice pacer in the side. The fast bowler has been putting in a lot of hard work in the test format, and with the kind of form he showed in IPL 2025, he is expected to play a key role in the series.
11.) Akash Deep/ Arshdeep Singh
The third pacer is expected to be one between Akash Deep or Arshdeep Singh. The fast bowlers usually play a major role in England, and hence, both of them will need to bring their best if the Indian Cricket Team is to fancy their chances of winning the series. The call for the third pacer might be taken based on what combination the team management and the skipper want.
