Indian Cricket Team’s tour of England for the five-match test series will begin on June 20 in Leeds.

Indian Cricket team are scheduled to tour England for a five-match test series between June and August. This tour will begin on June 20 in Leeds. The Indian selection committee is likely to announce India’s squad in the coming week.

India have to decide on the next captain as Rohit Sharma has retired from test cricket. There are a few options for captaincy, such as Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill, or Rishabh Pant. However, after Rohit, Virat Kohli also retired from test cricket and India will have big shoes to fill in the upcoming series.

There are a number of challenges as this is an important tour and India have already lost their last two Test series. So, they will be looking to pick the best possible for the England tour. Here we will talk about the 18-player predicted test squad for India for the coming tour.

Indian Cricket Team 18-member test squad for England tour 2025 – Predicted

1. Shubman Gill

Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from test cricket, Shubman Gill is the front-runner to lead the side and it won’t be a surprise if he is given the captaincy for the England tour. He is young, confident, and, most importantly, a crucial aspect of Indian batting across formats. He is likely to be the first man on the sheet for the England tour and likely to be the captain.

2. Jasprit Bumrah

The ace pacer has been vice-captain of Indian test side and also the stand-in captain for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Hence, he is also another option whom the BCCI might appoint as captain. But, with workload management, he might not play all of the five tests in England, which might be one factor why he might not get named as captain of the side.

However, his role as leader of the pace attack is never in the question and he will be expected to lead India’s pace attack in the tour of England and will be the first bowler to be named in the squad.

3. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal has become one of the main pillars of Indian batting in tests within a span of two years. He has been brilliant and was India’s leading scorer in Australia. It will be his first English test tour, and he will be excited. Jaiswal has been in great form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and will be looking to score more runs against them.

4. KL Rahul (wk)

KL Rahul is someone who has done everything for India. He was asked to open in Australia in tough conditions and he did it with success. Rahul has played in England before and has done well. He might be the next opener after Rohit. His role and form will be important for India in England.

5. Rishabh Pant (wk)

Rishabh Pant is India’s X-factor in the batting department. Especially his role in SENA countries has earned him success and for the team as well. Though he is not in good form in the IPL 2025, he is a different beast in the whites. Hence, there is no doubt about his selection, and he is India’s first-choice keeper.

6. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja has been India’s first-choice spinner in SENA countries, and he slammed a century in the last test played in England against England. Jadeja has done well over the years, and his experience and role in the team are very important.

7. Mohammed Shami

India missed Mohammed Shami in Australia, but he is fit now and bowling at his full throttle. But his rhythm is looking a bit off-color. But the English conditions are perfect for him to come back to his best, and he loves bowling in these conditions. Hence, we might see the pair of Bumrah and Shami once again in whites.

8. Washington Sundar

Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement has certainly opened the doors for Washington Sundar. India have a number of options for leggies or leg-break bowlers, but among the first-choice spinners, Sundar is someone who bowls off-spin. With that, his batting is another additional asset. Hence, he will be India’s backup spinner for the test series.

9. Axar Patel

Not just Jadeja and Sundar, we might see Axar Patel also in the squad. He is likely to make his comeback in the test squad after missing the last couple of series. Axar has been among regular white-ball players for India. He has improved a lot in the last couple of years, and he is someone who can bowl well in England.

10. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj was dropped in Australia because of form. But it looks like he might make a comeback. India need a strong pace battery, and Siraj has done well in England in the past. His current form in the IPL 2025 is also good, and he is likely to be the third seamer for India in the squad.

11. Nitish Kumar Reddy

The evolution of Nitish Kumar Reddy in tests has been brilliant. He was picked for the BGT 2024-25 and it turned out to be a memorable series for him. He ended up as India’s second-highest run-scorer and also took crucial wickets with the ball. In England, he can be more effective with the ball, and his role as an all-rounder can be crucial for India.

12. Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana was India’s third seamer in Australia in a couple of games. He is likely to retain his place as he has shown good form in recent matches. He did well for India in ODIs and T20Is, and his form in the IPL 2025 is also good. He is likely to be among the backup seamers for the five-match series.

13. Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan is likely to retain his position as a backup middle-order batter for India. He has always done well whenever he has had a chance. Though he hasn’t batted in SENA countries in tests yet, he has a good technique to get success here. He is likely to feature in the squad.

14. Dhurv Jurel (wk)

Dhurv Jurel made his test debut for India against England in 2024 and produced a Player of the Match performance in the series. After Pant’s return to the test side, he has been on the sidelines, but he is most likely to retain his position as backup keeper for the tour. Moreover, he is a good batter in the middle-order and also provides with the option to play him as a pure batter if needed.

15. Abhimanyu Easwaran

Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to be included in the squad as Rohit has retired from tests and India might look for other opening options. Although Rahul might open for India along with Jaiswal, Easwaran might be picked as a backup opener. He is an experienced batter at the domestic circuit and has been on India’s radar for a long time.

16. Karun Nair

Karun Nair has been scoring runs in domestic cricket for the past year or so. That is where he has made his comeback chance very bright. With Indian batting struggling in Australia and the conditions in England being even tougher, we might see India going for a few more batters. That is where Karun Nair can get a place in the team.

17. Sai Sudharsan

Last but not least, India can pick Sai Sudharsan as a backup opener in the side. The Southpaw is in tremendous form and has a great batting style that can be successful in seaming conditions. Most importantly, he is in rich batting form and has set the IPL 2025 on fire. Hence, India might look to use his batting form and give him a chance.
