Harshit Rana has been official ruled out of the IND vs AFG T20Is due to injury.

Team India have been lucky to have a big pool of skilled cricketers, which has helped them to perform consistently across formats. The Indian team’s cricket calendar is consistently busy, which can occasionally affect the players’ performance.

That is where the problem of injuries arise in this context. Recently, there have been several cases of injuries among Indian cricketers, which have become a significant issue for both the team and the management.

In recent tours of Ireland, England, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka, India have not had their full-strength side, as some cricketers missed the action due to injury. India will face Afghanistan next for three T20Is, and they are missing some key players due to injuries.

Let’s have a look at five Indian cricketers who have been in and out of the team in recent past due to injuries.

5. Mayank Yadav

Mayank Yadav was the find of the IPL 2024, when he burst onto the scene with his ability to bowl consistently over 150 kmph. He impressed everyone and became an overnight superstar. But the injuries cut short his time on the field. In three IPL seasons, he only played ten matches.

Even for Team India, he has only played six T20Is since 2024. That is because of the injuries he has been dealing with. He had surgery recently, and after a 21-month break, he returned in action for the last T20I series in Zimbabwe.

4. Nitish Kumar Reddy

After Hardik, if India have trusted someone as a fast-bowling all-rounder, it is Nitish Kumar Reddy. He has been pretty impressive whenever he has been given a chance. But the injuries have not helped him much.

Since his international debut in 2024, Nitish has only played 20 games for India. That itself tells how vulnerable he is when it comes to fitness. He has not played a Test or T20I since 2025, and his last ODI came back in June. But he has received the green signal for the IND vs AFG T20Is and is expected to be in action.

3. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya is probably at the top of his skills. He is among the best white-ball all-rounders in modern-day cricket, who can win games with bat and ball. He is a key asset for Team India. But his fitness has always been a major concern. He has suffered several injuries in his career and is still not fit. Hardik is currently in rehab at CoE in Bengaluru.

He is a key player for India’s plan for the ODI World Cup 2027, which is why it is important for him to stay fit. Hardik is not part of the upcoming IND vs AFG T20Is, but he has been named for the upcoming series against Australia A. Though his availability is still subject to fitness.

2. Jasprit Bumrah

The BCCI is very keen on the workload of Indian ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The board has dealt with the pacer cautiously and has given him the rest regularly. But despite the workload management, Bumrah has been sidelined on odd occasions due to injuries.

After a non-stop cricket during the T20 World Cup 2026 and IPL 2026, Bumrah featured in the ODIs against England. But he had a knee injury during the series and has been out of action since then. Though he is expected to be back for the IND vs AFG T20Is, but with India preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup, his availability and fitness will be a prime goal.

1. Harshit Rana

The 24-year-old pacer has been the most recent player to have ruled out of the upcoming IND vs AFG T20I series. Harshit Rana has been a key backup bowler for India, who has already made his debut across formats. He has had an impressive start to his career.

But since his debut in 2024, he has only played 30 international games. That is because of the injuries he has dealt with. He also missed the T20 World Cup 2026 and then the IPL 2026 for KKR. Though he made his comeback on the UK tour, he got injured after playing five matches.

When will the IND vs AFG T20I series start?

The IND vs AFG T20I series will start on September 13 at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
