Only retired Indian cricketers are eligible to play in overseas T20 leagues.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has a strict policy for Indian men’s cricketers regarding participation in the overseas T20 leagues. If a player wishes to play international cricket for India, domestic cricket in India, and the Indian Premier League (IPL), then he is not allowed to play in T20 leagues outside the IPL.

In order to take part in the overseas T20 leagues, an Indian men’s cricketer must retire from all forms of representative cricket in India, including the IPL.

Interestingly, a few players had previously changed their nationality and retired from Indian cricket to be eligible to ply their trades elsewhere.

Players like Unmukt Chand and Saurabh Netravalkar were part of India’s domestic cricket, but now hold US nationality.

On that note, let’s take a look at some Indian cricketers who have played in T20 leagues other than the IPL after retirement from international and Indian cricket.

Indian players who played in overseas T20 leagues:

Munaf was signed by the Lanka Premier League (LPL) franchise Kandy Tuskers for the 2020 edition.

2. Yuvraj Singh: Global T20 Canada (GT20)

Yusuf played a vital role in helping the Rajasthan Royals lift the IPL trophy in the 2008 edition. Later, Pathan also won the IPL twice with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014. Pathan announced his retirement from Indian cricket in 2021.
