5 Indian cricketers who might retire soon

Some of senior Indian cricketers are nearing end of their international careers.
A few legendary Indian cricketers have announced their retirement this year. For instance, batting legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from test cricket in May. Having retired from T20I cricket last year, they are only active in ODI cricket.
Recently, test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara hung up his boots from all forms of cricket. While, Ravichandran Ashwin has also retired from Indian Premier League (IPL) and Indian cricket after retiring from international cricket in December last year.
Notably, some veteran Indian players are active in domestic cricket and IPL, however, they have been overlooked from the national team for a long time. Hence, they might announce their retirement in the near future. On that note, let’s take a look at five Indian cricketers who might announce their retirement soon.
5 Indian cricketers who might retire soon
5. Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane is the first player on this list. The Mumbai batter is aiming for a comeback in the test team and is putting in hard yards in the domestic cricket. However, his comeback to the national team is highly unlikely as the selectors surely have moved on from him. The 37-year-old last played a test match for India against West Indies in July 2023.
After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement, Indian team has undergone a transition in test cricket. Many young players have also proved themselves to be promising batters in future. In such a scenario, Rahane might look forward to his retirement with no hopes for a comeback.
4. Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma is another player on this list. Although the right-arm pacer has not officially retired from international cricket, he has been out of the national side for a long time. His last test match was against New Zealand in 2021.
The 36-year-old is active in the IPL, where he plays for Gujarat Titans (GT). Ishant played his last international game four years ago and hasn’t been getting opportunities in the national side. Hence, he might soon announce his retirement.
3. Umesh Yadav

Right-arm pacer Umesh Yadav has represented India in 57 tests. He was part of Indian team that faced Australia in ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 (WTC) final. However, he was not recalled to the test side after the encounter, where he struggled.
Young Indian pacers like Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana are looking to cement their place in the test team. Hence, Umesh’s comeback in the national team is almost impossible. Therefore, the 37-year-old player might soon pull the curtains down on his career.
2. Jaydev Unadkat

Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat made headlines in 2022 after he made his test comeback after a decade. However, the left-arm seamer failed to give a consistent show and soon lost his place in the test team.
The 33-year-old last played a test match for India in 2023 against West Indies. Many young pacers are making a mark in the test team. Hence, Unadkat’s chances of a comeback have almost diminished. In such a scenario, he might announce retirement from international cricket soon.
1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the most successful pacers for India in white-ball cricket, having played 121 ODIs and 87 T20Is. However, the right-arm pacer has not played any international match for almost three years.
He last played for India during the T20I series against New Zealand in November 2022. Although the right-arm pacer is quite active in IPL, his chances of making a comeback in the Indian team are almost impossible. Hence, the 35-year-old might decide to hang up his boots soon.
