Indian Sports Ministry said that India will not play bilateral sports with Pakistan.

The Indian Government has outlined their policy regarding playing bilateral sports with Pakistan. Notably, Indian Cricket Team are set to clash with Pakistan Cricket Team in Asia Cup 2025. The clash between the two arch-rivals will take place on September 14 in Dubai.

When the Asia Cup 2025 schedule was announced, many cricket fans slammed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for agreeing to play cricket against Pakistan. The India-Pakistan relations have been severely affected after the Pahalgam terror attack in April.

In May, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor and attacked the terrorist hideouts in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (PoK). However, this led to a clash between the Armed Forces of both countries near the north-western border regions. Since the Pahalgam terror attack, there has been a public demand to end cricketing ties with Pakistan.

As per the latest policy by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Indian teams will not participate in competitions in Pakistan. However, they will participate in multilateral events where Pakistan teams are competing.

“In so far as bilateral sports events in each other’s country are concerned, Indian teams will not be participating in competitions in Pakistan. Nor will we permit Pakistani teams to play in India,” the latest policy states.

With regard to international and multilateral events, in India or abroad, we are guided by the practices of international sports bodies and the interest of our own sportspersons,” it further added.

The policy also added that Pakistan players will be allowed to participate in multilateral events hosted by India.

“Indian teams and individual players will take part in international events that also have teams or players from Pakistan. Similarly, Pakistani players and teams will be able to participate in such multilateral events hosted by India,” it further added.

Hence, according to the new policy, the India vs Pakistan clash in Asia Cup 2025 will take place as scheduled. Notably, India and Pakistan are expected to play three games in the tournament if they reach the final. Along with UAE and Oman, India and Pakistan are part of Group A in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Asia Cup 2025 will commence on September 9 in UAE. The Men in Blue will play their opening game against UAE on September 10. Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the tournament.
