India lost the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka 2-0 in Colombo.

The Indian cricket team started their white-ball tour against hosts Sri Lanka on a winning note with a 3-0 win in the three-match T20I series. It was expected that the Men in Blue would clinch the three-match ODI series as well against the injury-hit Sri Lanka, but the hosts bounced back in style.

The Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lanka outclassed the Rohit Sharma-led India in the ODI series. In the series, the first match was tied and then, the hosts won the second match by 32 runs. Sri Lanka won the final match by a whopping 110 runs and clinched the series 2-0.

Throughout the ODI series, Indian batters struggled against the quality spin attack of the hosts. The visitors lost 27 wickets out of 30, which was the most by any team in a bilateral series (maximum of three matches).

Sri Lanka also won their first ODI bilateral series in nearly three decades against Men in Blue. On that note, let’s take a look at five Indian players who performed poorly in the three-match ODI series in Colombo.

Five Indian cricketers who flopped in the three-match ODI series vs Sri Lanka

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli performed poorly in the series against Sri Lanka. The 35-year-old scored just 58 runs in three outings at a below-par average of 19.33.

Throughout the series, the batting sensation had troubles against Sri Lankan spinners. Kohli was dismissed LBW three times in a row.

2. Shubman Gill

The BCCI selection committee appointed Shubman Gill as the vice-captain for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. However, Gill had a forgettable ODI series as a batter.

Gill scored only 57 runs in three matches at a poor average of 19. His highest score in the ODI series was 35.

3. Shreyas Iyer

After being snubbed by the BCCI from the central contracts for not prioritising domestic cricket despite being asked to, the Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer made a comeback to international cricket for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

However, his comeback ended on a poor note as Shreyas failed to deliver with the bat. Iyer scored 38 runs in three matches at a lowly average of 12.66.

4. KL Rahul

India wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul also marked his return to international cricket with this ODI series. Rahul, who has done well so far in the middle-order for the national side in ODI cricket, was expected to play a crucial role against Sri Lanka.

However, the 32-year-old ended up with 31 runs in just two outings and was dropped for the final match of the series. The wicket-keeper batter had a poor average of 15.50.

5. Mohammed Siraj

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj had a stunning record against Sri Lanka in ODIs. It was expected that Siraj would once again unleash his beast mode against the injury-hit Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t deliver with the ball in all three ODIs. The right-arm speedster dismissed three Sri Lankan batters in three outings at a dismal economy of 6.28.
