Several senior players are expected to return in Indian squad for England ODIs
After beginning their home ODI series against Afghanistan, India are also preparing for an important white-ball tour of England next month. While the T20I Squad for the England and Ireland tours has already been announced, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to reveal the ODI squad.
India won the one-off test match against Afghanistan with complete dominance. In the first ODI, the India played fantastic cricket and defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, and now, they are leading the three-match ODI series by 1-0.
After the Afghanistan series, the Indian team will go on a white-ball tour to England for five T20Is and three ODIs, which is all set to start from July 01, 2026. This England ODI series is not just a bilateral assignment. It will be part of India’s preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027, which is scheduled to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from October to November.
When will India’s ODI Squad for England get announced?
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had confirmed that India’s ODI squad for the England tour will be announced during the latter part of the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan. With the Afghanistan ODIs running from June 13 to June 20, the squad is most likely to be revealed this week.
“We have three ODI matches also in England, that team we have not announced, that will be announced towards the latter part of the Afghanistan series,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia
The three ODIs against England are scheduled from July 14 to July 19 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and The Lord’s in London.
Many senior players are likely to return for the England ODIs after missing recent matches. Virat Kohli is expected to be available for the ODI series against England after recovering from the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the Afghanistan ODI series.
The fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are also likely to make their return after being rested to fully recover from a hectic IPL schedule.
Hardik Pandya remains another key player, but his availability is still under discussion. Reports suggest that the team management wants him to be fully fit before the 2027 ODI World Cup, as the focus has totally shifted towards that on full pace.

When will India’s ODI squad for England be announced?
The squad is expected to be announced during the latter part of the Afghanistan ODI series, most likely around June 18-19, 2026.
Who is likely to lead India in the England ODI series?
Shubman Gill is likely to lead the side for the England ODIs while Shreyas Iyer will his deputy.
