Out of 19 Indian women’s cricketers, only six were picked in the WBBL 2024-25 draft.
The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024-25 overseas draft was held on September 1. Earlier, 19 Indian women’s cricketers nominated themselves, which also included the pre-drafted Smriti Mandhana, who will play for two-time champions Adelaide Strikers.
During the four rounds of the WBBL overseas draft, only six Indian women’s cricketers were picked and 13 were left out.
Surprisingly, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was one of the major names to not find any teams in the overseas draft. Shreyanka Patil and Radha Yadav also didn’t find teams.
Notably, Harmanpreet was the only Indian player to get picked in the draft in 2023. The senior cricketer played for Melbourne Renegades Women. The right-handed batter scored 321 runs in 14 outings in the WBBL 2023.
The upcoming edition of the WBBL 2024 will be played from October 27 to December 1. Two time champions Adelaide Strikers will host Brisbane Heat in the tournament’s opening fixture.
