Australia will host India for five tests from November 2024 to January 2025.

Cricket Australia (CA), on March 26, 2024, confirmed the schedule for their home summer between September 2024 and January 2025. This involves Six tests, nine ODIs, nine T20Is to be played by Australia’s men’s and women’s teams at 12 venues.

The biggest of all series in Australian summer will be the five-match test series against India, dubbed the Border-Gavaskar Test series, which will be part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.

Pat Cummins will lead Australia’s effort to recapture the Border-Gavaskar Trophy from India for the first time in a decade when the highly anticipated series kicks off on November 22 at Perth Stadium, where Virat Kohli’s side was soundly defeated on their only previous visit in 2018.

That was Australia’s sole win in the series, and Perth has been India’s least favorite location Down Under, with the visiting team losing four of their five tests at the venue in the last 77 years.

India have been the only team to win back-to-back test series down under and in good news, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Australia (CA) have confirmed that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy would be played in five tests.

India to play pink-ball test during their five-match series down under

For the first time since 1991-92, Australia and India will play five tests this summer. The expanded Border-Gavaskar Trophy series is be the centerpiece of the 2024-25 home summer schedule, which was announced recently.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been extended for this and future series to recognize the nations’ standing in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final, as well as their continued commitment to the game’s highest international format.

The schedule shows the first test will be hosted in Perth from November 22 onwards. The second test will be played in Adelaide from December 6 and will be a day-night encounter. The last time India played a D/N test in Adelaide, they were bowled out for 36 runs, their lowest test total.

The third test will be played at Brisbane, Gabba from December 14, while the MCG will host the Boxing Day test match. The new year’s test will be played in Sydney.

Australia have not beaten India in a home series since 2014-15, losing in 2018-19 while Steve Smith and David Warner were suspended, and again in 2020-21 when the four-test series skipped Perth. Australia haven’t won a test series in India since 2004.

Fittingly, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been put on the same footing as the (men’s) Ashes with a five-Test Series for the first time since 1991-92 and we’re confident the schedule will maximize viewership and attendances and there will be a tremendous atmosphere in stadiums across the country,”– Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said.
