Rohit Sharma hit a half-century against Ireland in New York.

The blockbuster IND vs PAK clash in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is only a day away. This high-voltage encounter will take place on Sunday, June 9, at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.

One could consider India as favorites heading into this game. The Men In Blue thrashed Ireland by 8 wickets and have played two games, including the warm-up match against Bangladesh, at this venue which has proven to be challenging for the batters.

Babar Azam’s Pakistan side suffered a huge upset in their opening game of the tournament as they lost to the USA in the Super Over. This fixture is virtually a must-win game for Pakistan.

For India, though, there was a slight injury scare to their captain, Rohit Sharma, two days out from the important match.

Rohit Sharma gets hit on his right thumb during a net session on Friday

According to a report in RevSportz, Rohit, who had notched up a fifty against Ireland, was hit on his right thumb while taking throwdowns from the throwdown specialist Nuwan Seneviratne on Friday in nets in New York. A ball from good length reared up sharply and hit Sharma on his right thumb.

Rohit looked “initially uncomfortable” after being hit on his thumb but, thankfully, the India captain continued batting. However, he decided to move to another net whose pitch had more consistent bounce.

The report said, “The uneven surface and unpredictable bounce had rattled him, briefly. The positive news for the team and fans is that Rohit Sharma is fully fit for the crucial game against rivals Pakistan.”

The teams who have their matches in New York have been given the Cantiague Park for nets and the pitches there are believed to be as spicy as the ones in the Nassau County Stadium.

During the India vs Ireland match, Rohit was hit high on his arm. He retired hurt after reaching his half-century. The captain later confirmed in the post-match presentation ceremony that it was only a sore arm and he was fine.
