Inzamam Ul Haq named Pakistan Cricket Team's new chief selector
Inzamam ul Haq re-appointed as the new chief selector after serving the role from 2016 to 2019.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is the most unpredictable cricket governing body in the world. No one can predict when the coach, chairman, or selector will be changed or who will be the next to be replaced. Not long ago, Ramiz Raza was operating as PCB chief; he was replaced by Najam Sethi, who was later replaced by Zaka Ashraf. And now, former Pakistani captain Inzamam ul Haq has also joined the PCB as the new chief selector.
It will be the second time that the 53-year-old will serve as chief selector. He has previously managed this role between 2016 and 2019, and now he returns ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, which will be followed by the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. His tenure will start as Pakistan are scheduled to play three ODIs against Afghanistan later this month.
Inzamam ul Haq will have the first task of selecting Pakistan’s squad for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan
The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Afghanistan is scheduled to start on August 22, which will be the first assignment for Inzamam ul Haq as chief selector. Then, Pakistan will be involved in the Asia Cup 2023 and then the ODI World Cup. The former skipper selected Pakistan’s squad that played in the 2019 ODI World Cup, and he will be doing the same job in 2023.
The upcoming World Cup will take place in India between October 5 and November 19. This move is taken after looking at the big tournament coming up, as Inzamam ul Haq has immense experience and has also played in India during his career. With his knowledge and approach to the game, he will be a key figure in taking Pakistan cricket forward.
Not just for international cricket, PCB is looking to use Inzamam ul Haq’s experience to improve the domestic circuit as well, which will help them find out the local talent and provide them with the right opportunity to shine at the highest level. However, it will be a big challenge for him to manage the demand in modern-day cricket and also do well as per the expectations of the fans.
