IOC accepts recommendation to include T20 cricket in 2028 LA Olympics

T20 cricket will be played at the Los Angeles 2028 summer Olympics.
Cricket has been formally accepted in the Olympics 2028. Los Angeles will be hosting the biggest sporting event in the world. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) formally accepted the recommendation of accepting cricket as part of the Olympics 2028 in Los Angeles. The IOC's formal decision came at its executive board meeting in Mumbai. Mumbai will be hosting the next IOC session from 14th October to 16th October and the next step will be taken.
Along with Cricket, there were recommendations to include Baseball, Flag football, Lacrosse, and Squash in the Olympics 2028. Along with cricket, these 4 sports events will be included in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The official decisions and announcements will be made during the IOC’s session in Mumbai. Cricket will be played in T20 format as this will make it easier for the authorities to host the games in one or two weeks.
Thomas Bach talks about the decision
IOC president Thomas Bach said that all five sports were in line with the Olympics 2028 in Los Angeles. Thomas Bach said, “These proposals have been accepted as a package by the IOC executive board taking into consideration that these proposals and these sports are fully in line with the sports culture of our host in 2028 and with the American sports culture.” A complete list of events to be played in the Olympics 2028 will be formally announced.
IOC President Thomas Bach also said that the inclusion of these sports will bring in some international sports to the United States. Bach added, “They will showcase iconic American sports to the World while bringing at the same time international sports to the United States. The inclusion will, on the other hand, allow the Olympics to engage with the new athletes and fan communities in the US and globally.”
Cricket will be part of the historical second time in the Olympics. Cricket was played in the 1900 Olympics games played at Paris. Great Britain took on a Mixed XI and they won the gold medal after defeating Mixed XI by 152 runs. The Olympics committee is also looking to cater to a wider audience with ricket involvement. Cricket’s involvement will make the viewership go multi folds due to the big popularity of the game among Indian sub-continent region.
