Kane Williamson, Gujarat Titans' overseas star who suffered knee injury in the opening game of the IPL 2023 against CSK will miss rest of the season.

Even after their opening game win, Defending Champions Gujarat Titans had a setback after the first game. Top order batsman, Kane Williamson is now officially ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2023 with knee injury he suffered against CSK. Kane Willimson injured his right knee while attempting a stop at boundary line, he landed awkwardly and had to rush out from the field. Titans had to replace him with B Sai Sudarshan as an impact player.

After the official announcement, Williamson is headed to New Zealand for the treatment. New Zealand Cricket has also issued a statement on his injury. NZC has started looking for specialist doctors for Williamson's treatment. There are various names going round to replace Kane Williamson. Fans are guessing Steve Smith as a replacement for Williamson, yet Gujarat Titans have few other names to look out for. Steve Smith didn't put his name in IPL 2023 Auction, so he can't join any team as a replacement this season. Other than Smith there are few names that can provide Gujarat Titans a better balance.

Let's take a look at 3 players who can replace Kane Williamson in GT Squad for IPL 2023:

1 – Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka)

Sri Lankan skipper and their limited overs specialist all-rounder, Dasun Shanaka despite having a good run of form went unsold in IPL Auction 2023 held in Kochi. Shanaka as a Batting all – rounder and Captain had a wonderful year of 2022. Under Shanaka’s leadership Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup. Dasun Shanaka offers a role of an extra pace bowler as well as a Lower Middle order batsman. Titans can definitely get a good purchase if Shanaka joins the squad.

2 - Travis Head (Australia)

Since Australia has started using Travis Head as an opener, Head has evolved himself nicely as limited overs batter. Travis Head as a top order batter will prove a like for like replacement. Travis Head’s strike rate in ODI format is almost touching 100, Head’s aggressive approach and his style of batting will give Gujarat Titans a stable Number 3 or number 4 batter in place of Kane Williamson.

3 - Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand)

Kiwi all-rounder Daryl Mitchell went unsold in IPL Auction 2023 that happened in Kochi. Mitchell was part of Rajasthan Royals setup in IPL 2022 season. Mitchell has been a prolific run scorer for New Zealand in T20 format. He is yet to prove himself in the Indian Premier League. Mitchell as an all-rounder will give Gujarat an option as lower order batter as well as a 6th option in pace bowling.
