IPL 2023: SRH Captain Aiden Markram blames batting without 'Intent' for the loss against DC
Aiden Markram-led SRH were defeated by visitors Delhi Capitals by 7 runs in a close encounter.
One win gives you a lot of confidence, Delhi Capitals have proven that. After a close escape against KKR, Delhi have defended a low total at Hyderabad. They have beaten Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 runs in a close game. A top-class bowling performance from Capitals' spinners helped DC register their second win in the IPL 2023. Delhi Capitals' top order once again gave a headache to Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly. They were 5 down on 62 runs in 8 overs. From there, Manish Pandey (34) and Axar Patel (34) took the charge and added 69 runs for the 6th wicket that helped Delhi post 144 runs on the board. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/11) and Washington Sundar (3/28) bowled brilliantly in the game.
SRH batting lacked intent while in the chase
In the chase, Sunrisers Hyderabad were too cautious and could not put pressure on the Delhi bowling attack. They put themselves in a cell and DC took great advantage of their approach. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in their 8 overs combined picked up 3 wickets and conceded only 43 runs together. SRH captain Aiden Markram was not happy with the team's batting, He said, “Not good with the bat. Not enough intent… We have to go back and see how we can be free and be better”. SRH batting was moving forward with only 6 runs per over. Markram blamed the top order’s intent for the loss. He further added in his statement, “Unfortunately we are letting ourselves down because of lack of intent, guys need to work hard”. Only Heinrich Klassen tried to chase the target at the end with his 31 runs inning in 19 balls.
Delhi captain Warner gets huge reception in Hyderabad
It was like a homecoming for Delhi Capitals captain David Warner. Warner got a huge reception from the Hyderabad crowd whenever he was on screen. David Warner said, “Love it here, it is an amazing crowd they always come in here and support. Thanks for all the support”. The Delhi skipper credited his bowlers for the win. He said, “Mukesh under pressure was amazing, well done to him. The two spinners were fantastic, they have been our rock. These two (Axar and Kuldeep) are experienced bowlers and they are never going to let you down”.
'Had to leave my Coffee'
Delhi Capitals all-rounder Axar Patel was awarded Player of the Match for his 34 runs inning and bowling performance. Axar bowled an economical spell and picked up 2 wickets in his 4 overs. He said, “34 in 34 was important, I ordered Coffee and had to leave the glass like that when three wickets fell in one over, Pandey and I discussed that we need to take it as deep as possible”. His partnership with Manish Pandey (34) was crucial for Delhi Capitals and that helped them win their second game consecutively.
