IPL 2023: Jerseys Of All 10 Teams For The Season
We take a close look at the kits of the franchises for the 2023 IPL.
The IPL is one of the most colourful cricketing events on the calendar. The teams have largely been associated with their trademark jersey colours since their inception. The two new teams Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans made it to the playoffs in their first season, with the latter winning the tournament in resounding fashion.
As the IPL returns to the home and away format after four long years, fans have been waiting to pack their respective home stadiums in vibrant hues.
Be it a yellow Chepauk, a blue Wankhede or a red Chinnaswamy, the fans representing their teams and their colours across India’s grounds will be a sight to behold. Let us look at the jerseys of the 10 teams for the 2023 season.
Chennai Super Kings
Since 2021, Chennai Super Kings have stuck to the same jersey concept. The front resembles the iconic design maintained since the inception, with the roaring lion in the centre and blue outlines on the sides. This jersey has inter-woven criss-cross patterns as a slight addition. The front sponsor is TVS Eurogrip Tyres instead of Myntra. The camouflage patch remains on the shoulders. There is an added splash of blue in the back, and the rest remains relatively unchanged.
Delhi Capitals
The Capitals have made the most radical changes to their jersey’s design. The red is slightly more vermilion than blood red and the blue merges very well in the front. Football fans will liken this jersey to the JSW-backed Bengaluru FC jersey featuring very similar shades of blue and red. The back is completely vermilion red, and the DC tigers are printed behind the JSW logo. A buttoned collar completes a very vibrant looking kit.
Gujarat Titans
The defending champions elevated their jersey to the next level. A touch of golden lightning bolts added complements brilliantly with the shade of navy blue. These bolts are present in the shoulder, waist and back. Clean, simple and easy on the eye. The sponsors don’t clutter, hence retaining the simplicity aspect.
Kolkata Knight Riders
A continuation of their previous year’s jerseys, with the same colour palette. MyFab11 is the chest sponsor this edition, and the golden yellow in the bottom half has a more pronounced presence. Another club whose training jersey could have been a better inspiration for the main one.
Lucknow Super Giants
After facing much criticism for their turquoise jersey last season, LSG have changed shades to a much darker blue this season. However, the My11Circle sponsorship detail with a white background creates visual chaos, with the green waist highlights being replaced by orange. The logo is scarcely visible, but later photo shoots indicate that it has been fixed with a white outline.
Mumbai Indians
The inaugural WPL champions continued with their traditional shades of blue and gold, and have added some very interesting detailing to their 2023 jersey, involving some of the city’s famed spots. The golden stripes on the shoulders and at the back return, and it gives out more of a throwback feel.
Punjab Kings
PBKS have stuck to their pink and gold combination. It has a minimalistic feel with not a lot of clutter in the centre. The golden details combine well with the pink, good detailing down the sides as well with a touch of gold on the collar.
Rajasthan Royals
The Royals from the pink city retained their now familiar pink shade, but have done some unwanted experimentation. The much more neon hue and the repetitive cascading pattern running through the shirt impede the pleasantness of the colour. The stepwell design stands out. Still, this kit could look good under the lights, but the initial reception has been poor.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Why change something when it is working just fine? Akin to the squad composition, RCB’s jersey does not feature any major changes in the 2023 season, barring a changed sponsorship. Muthoot Fincorp have been replaced by Qatar Airways as the title sponsors after an $9.15 Million deal, and a simple golden band replaces the RCB letterings in neon green from last season. Dashing and bold.
SunRisers Hyderabad
The much revamped SRH continued that trend with their jersey. A very simplistic render with a predominantly orange front, with black sleeves containing hints of orange. The black collar looks slightly out of place, but barring that, the kit looks fine. The FanCraze sponsorship logo with a black background works well, and a good mix of the two colours are present in the bottom as well.
