In the opening encounter of the Indian Premier League 2023, Gujarat Titans are taking on Chennai Super Kings at Narendra Modi Cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans have started their campaign nicely with Mohammad Shami providing GT a crucial breakthrough. Shami in his first over bowled a few superb deliveries to trouble CSK openers. Shami cleaned up CSK opener Devon Conway comprehensively in his second over. Devon Conway got out cheaply on just one run.

Mohammed Shami rattles Devon Conway's stumps

Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammad Shami kept a good line and length to deceive Conway. Shami bowled an almost pitched-up delivery to him, where Conway misjudged the length and went forward for the drive. While driving the ball he missed the length and the ball rattled Conway’s off and middle stump. Shami in his first two overs, gave only two runs. Shami’s tight line kept CSK batters under pressure for a while. Devon Conway, in the 2022 season for Chennai Super Kings, did a decent performance. He had to sit out from the mid-season due to an injury.

GT bank on Mohammed Shami's pace to defend their title

Defending Champions Gujarat Titans are banking heavily on Pacer Md. Shami. Shami had a good first season for the Titans too. He played a massive role in Gujarat’s first-season title victory. Shami is GT’s highest wicket-taker so far. He has taken 21 wickets for Gujarat in 17 games (including today's game). Shami cleaning up Conway will greatly impact GT’s confidence in their opening game of IPL 2023.

Playing in their second season Gujarat Titans have not made many changes in their eleven. GT has given Ireland's new ball bowler Joshua Little a chance with Yash and Shami in a pace attack. Captain Hardik Pandya is also sharing the new ball workload with their pace attack. Rashid Khan is playing as a spinning all–rounder and Kane Williamson has come in to strengthen their Top order. While, for Chennai Super Kings, young Rajwardhan Hangargekar and Ben Stokes are making their debut.
