Lucknow Super Giants defeated Rajasthan Royals in a close finish to move up to the 2nd spot in the IPL 2023 points table.

Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium hosted an IPL game after 4 years. This was the homecoming that Rajasthan Royals would not have expected. In a two paced wicket, Rajasthan failed to carry the momentum from the last game. Lucknow Super Giants defeated table toppers Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs. In a low scoring thriller, Lucknow set up a target of 154 runs for Rajasthan. The Royals, despite a great opening stand on a tough wicket, failed to chase down the target. Lucknow after a poor start fought back in the middle overs by picking up wickets in regular intervals. They didn’t let Rajasthan build a partnership after the opening partnership of 87 runs. Avesh Khan with his 3 wickets and Marcus Stoinis with his 2 wickets spell led Lucknow’s fight back to get two points. They restricted the Royals to 144 runs.

IPL 2023 Updated Points Table:

Lucknow Super Giants with a close win against the Royals have tied with Rajasthan Royals in points. Both teams now have 8 points in their 6 games. Royals with a better NRR are still on top of the table, while Lucknow are at second spot. Chennai Super Kings with 6 points are third in the table, while Gujarat Titans with the same amount of points are in fourth position. Delhi Capitals are yet to register their opening win, thus they are languishing at the bottom with zero in their points tally.

IPL 2023 Updated Orange cap holder:

Rajasthan Royals' opener Jos Buttler challenged RCB Captain Faf du Plessis nicely in the orange cap race. Buttler with his 40 runs innings in 41 balls has now gone up to the second position in the orange cap top 5 tally. Buttler now has 244 runs in 6 innings. RCB Captain Faf du Plessis is still leading the race with 259 runs. Venkatesh Iyer is 3rd on the list with 234 runs. Venkatesh smashed a century against Mumbai Indians. Punjab Kings Captain Shikhar Dhawan is 4th with 233 runs in only 3 innings. Gujarat Titans opener Shubhman Gill is 5th with 228 runs.

IPL 2023 Updated Purple cap holder:

Despite not playing against Rajasthan Royals, Mark Wood has retained the purple cap. Yuzvendra Chahal had a poor outing against Lucknow Super Giants. He conceded 41 runs in 4 overs without picking up a wicket. As both, Chahal and Wood share the same amount of wickets (11), Wood, with a better economy rate has retained back the purple cap. Yuzvendra Chahal is second on the list. Gujarat Titans leg spinner Rashid Khan is 3rd in this race with 11 wickets. His teammate Md. Shami has taken 10 wickets in the IPL 2023 and he is 4th on this list. Chennai’s Tushar Deshpande with 10 wickets is 5th on the list.
