IPL 2023 Updated points table, Orange cap & Purple cap after Match 29 between CSK & SRH

Chennai Super Kings recorded a dominating win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at home in Chepauk to gain 2 points in the IPL 2023 table.

The 29th match of the IPL 2023 saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 21, 2023. Before this encounter, CSK had won 3 out of their five matches and SRH only had 2 wins out of their five and was placed 9th on the IPL 2023 points table.

MS Dhoni had the luck of the coin and chose to bowl first. Both the teams decided to play with the same playing XIs as their last game. While the start was decent with Harry Brook falling for 18 and after a short partnership, Abhishek Sharma fell for 34 runs to Jadeja, who also dismissed Rahul Tripathi for a run-a-ball 21.

Then the CSK bowlers tightened the screws on the SRH batting with Ravindra Jadeja taking 3/22. In the end, the Aiden Markram-led side finished on 134/7 in 20 overs.

In reply, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave CSK a flying start adding 87 runs for the first wicket in 11 overs. Ruturaj was run out unfortunately for 35 in 30 balls, while Conway continued the assault at the other end.

CSK won the game quite comfortably with Conway remaining unbeaten on 77 in 57 balls with 12 fours and 1 six and took CSK to a 7-wicket win with 8 balls to spare.

With an easy win over SRH, CSK consolidated their third spot with 4 wins in 6 matches now and 8 points to their name and also boosted their NRR. However, SRH’s troubles see them at the 9th spot with 2 wins from 6 matches and only 4 points. RR continued to rule the roost with 8 points from 6 matches thanks to their super net run rate of 1.043, while LSG follow them on the second spot.

RCB Captain Faf du Plessis continues to don the Orange Cap for the most runs in the ongoing IPL 2023 with 343 runs in 6 matches at an average of 68.60 at a strike rate of 166.50 thanks to his brilliant fifty against PBKS. His teammate Virat Kohli has moved to 3rd spot with 279 runs while David Warner, who hit his fourth fifty this season, has 285 runs and is in the second spot.

Devon Conway moved into the top 5 thanks to his fifty and now has 258 runs in 6 matches.

IPL 2023 Updated Purple cap holder:

Mohammed Siraj, thanks to his brilliant four-fer against PBKS has the Purple Cap for most wickets in the ongoing IPL 2023. He piped LSG’s Mark Wood who has 11 scalps, while the remainder of the pack sees Yuzvendra Chahal at no.3 with 11 wickets, Rashid Khan on no.4 with 11 wickets and Mohammad Shami at 5th with 10 scalps.

IPL 2023 to see a bumper double-header on Saturday, April 22

Saturday will see a doubleheader on weekends as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) host the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow in a day match. LSG will look to consolidate its position in the top two at the points table, while GT will look to move.

The second match will see Mumbai Indians (MI) hosting the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI will look to move upwards from the middle of the table and PBKS will try and do the same.
