Delhi Capitals, languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2023 points table, defeated the table-toppers GT by 5 runs.

Delhi Capitals have defended their 130 runs total against Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Ishant Sharma with a brilliant last over has given Delhi their third victory in the IPL 2023.  He defended 12 runs in the last over against Titans' iceman Rahul Tewatia (20) and captain Hardik Pandya (59). Chasing 131, the Titans had a poor start to the chase with Wriddhiman Saha and Shubhman Gill leaving early. Khaleel Ahmed with 2/24 in 4 overs set the tone for the Capitals in defending a low score at a batting wicket. Once again, the Capitals' batsmen disappointed their fans. They lost 5 wickets in powerplay. Mohammed Shami with some early movement rattled Delhi’s top and middle order. Shami bowled a magical spell of 4/11 in his quota of 4 overs. Apart from Priyam Garg (10) no other top-order batsman could touch double figures. Gujarat restricted Delhi to 130 runs. Aman Khan (51) scored an half-century and steered Delhi's inning with Axar (27) and Ripal Patel (23).

IPL 2023 Updated Points Table:

Teams are left with 5-6 games to consolidate their position in the top 4 or to make a possible entry in the playoffs. Gujarat Titans with a surprising loss against Delhi Capitals have not been able to better their lead at the top. The Titans in 9 games now have 12 points. They have won 6 games and have lost 3 in the IPL 2023. Defending champions Gujarat Titans place looks almost certain in the playoffs. Delhi Capitals had a happy ending against Gujarat. Delhi with 6 points are still languishing at the bottom. Delhi have won 3 games out of the 9 they have played. Rajasthan Royals are currently number 2 in the table with 10 points. One among Chennai and Lucknow will have an opportunity to go second on Wednesday. Gujarat, Rajasthan, Lucknow, and Chennai are currently the top 4 teams in the points table.

IPL 2023 Updated Orange cap holder:

The Orange cap race does not see much change after Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals clash in Ahmedabad. Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis is still leading the orange cap race with his consistent batting performance. Faf with 466 runs in 9 innings is the leading run-scorer in the IPL 2023. Faf played a brilliant knock of 44 runs at Ekana stadium against Lucknow Super Giants. His inning helped RCB to post a decent score. Rajasthan Royals opener Yashaswi Jaiswal is 2nd in the race with 428 runs. Chennai Super Kings opener Devon Conway is 3rd in this list with 414 runs in 9 innings. Virat Kohli is 4th with 364 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad is 5th on the list with 354 runs in 9 innings.

IPL 2023 Updated Purple cap holder:

Gujarat Titans' pacer Mohammed Shami had an unforgettable day with the ball. Shami gave Delhi 4 blows in the powerplay. Delhi were 5 down in the first 6 overs scoring just 28 runs. Shami bowled a magical spell of 4/11 in 4 overs.  With this spell, he has earned the Purple cap as well. The Purple cap race is getting bigger and better as the IPL 2023 is progressing. Several contenders have emerged since last week. Shami with a better economy than Tushar Deshpande has become the leading wicket-taker this season with 17 wickets. Tushar Deshpande is 2nd on the list with 17 wickets. RCB’s Mohammed Siraj is 3rd on the list with 15 wickets. Titans' leg spinner Rashid Khan has made his comeback in the top 5 list. He picked up a wicket against Delhi and is 5th in the list with 14 wickets in 9 games. Punjab Kings Arshdeep Singh is 4th in the list with 15 wickets.

What's in IPL on Wednesday?

It’s a rare double-header Wednesday in the IPL 2023. After suffering two back-to-back losses, Chennai Super Kings will take on Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Stadium. CSK’s openers are in red-hot form but they will have a big challenge ahead as Ekana’s wicket has produced several low-scoring games this year. Lucknow are at 3rd and Chennai are at 4th position in the points table with 10 points in 9 games. They will take on each other in the first game of the day. Later in the night, Punjab Kings will host Mumbai Indians at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. With a close win over RR, Mumbai had got an opportunity to put themselves in the race for playoffs, this game will be an important one for both teams. Punjab Kings are 6th in the table with 10 points in 9 games and Mumbai are 7th in the table with 8 points in 8 games.
