Rain washed out the afternoon game, while MI defeated hosts PBKS in the night game of Wednesday's double-header in the IPL 2023.

Punjab Kings have failed to defend a huge target of 214 runs against Mumbai Indians. Onslaught from Mumbai Indians' batsmen Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav has given MI a chance in keeping their hopes alive for playoffs qualification. They both had an outstanding partnership to defeat Punjab Kings by 6 wickets. MI had a poor start to the chase with captain Rohit Sharma going back early in the first over on a duck. Even after the poor start, Ishan and SKY with a blistering 116 runs partnership for 3rd wicket helped MI chase 215 runs. Punjab Kings also had a good batting day. Liam Livingstone smashed 82 runs in 42 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes and added unbeaten 119 runs in 9 overs with Jitesh Sharma. Jitesh also played a crucial knock of 49 runs in 27 balls. Punjab with the help of these two in the middle order gave MI 215 runs to chase. Ishan Kishan scored 75 runs in 41 balls, while Suryakumar smashed 66 runs in 31 balls. Tilak Verma (26) and Tim David (19) took MI over the line. Piyush Chawla once again impressed with his bowling spell, he picked up 2 wickets in his 4 overs conceding only 29 runs.

Rain played a spoilsport in Lucknow. Due to heavy rain and inclement weather in central India, only one innings was possible. Lucknow batters struggled early in their innings against Chennai Super Kings spin trio, Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, and Ravindra Jadeja bowled brilliant spells to pick up Lucknow’s first 5 wickets under 10 overs. Once, LSG, were once 42/5 after 10 overs in the innings. Young Ayush Badoni (59) took charge of the innings and scored a half-century. Lucknow were 125/7 when rain arrived in the 20th over of the game. Since then no action was possible due to poor weather and heavy rain. Moeen Ali, Matheesha Pathirana, and Maheesh Theekhsana picked up 2 wickets each, and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one wicket. Lucknow and Chennai both shared the 1-1 points and the game ended with no result.
