IPL 2023 Updated points table, Orange cap & Purple cap after Match 64 between PBKS & DC

Punjab Kings' road to IPL 2023 playoffs has become tougher after a defeat against Delhi in Dharamshala.

Delhi Capitals have finally won a game with their dominating batting performance. Delhi thrashed Punjab Kings by 13 runs in Dharamshala. This has put a break in the Punjab Kings race for the IPL 2023 playoffs. Batting first, Delhi Capitals had a dominating start with David Warner (46) and Prithvi Shaw (54) adding 94 runs for the first wicket. Rilee Rossouw with his brilliant power hitting put Delhi in a comfortable position with 213 runs on the board. Rossouw smashed 82 runs in 37 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes. Chasing 214, Punjab had a poor start as Shikhar Dhawan was back in the dugout on a golden duck. Later on, Atharva Taide (55) and Liam Livingstone (94) tried their best to give Punjab an important win but they failed.

Delhi Capitals have spoiled the party for Punjab Kings in Dharamshala. Struggling Delhi have managed to defeat Punjab Kings in their important game. This loss has made Punjab’s Kings road tougher than it was before the game. Delhi Capitals are now 9th in the points table with 10 points in 13 games. They have won only 5 of their 13 games. Punjab Kings with a loss against DC are still 8th in the table with 12 points in 13 games. Gujarat Titans are top of the table with 18 points. Chennai Super Kings are 2nd with 15 points. Lucknow are 3rd with 15 points and Mumbai are 4th with 14 points. Sunrisers Hyderabad are 10th in the table with 8 points.

IPL 2023 Updated Orange cap:

The orange cap race remained unchanged with RCB captain Faf du Plessis still holding it firmly. Faf du Plessis has 631 runs in 12 innings this season. He has been scoring most of the runs for RCB along with Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell. Faf has batted with a magnificent average of 57.36 and a strike rate of 157.24. He also scored 7 half-centuries this season. Gujarat Titans' opener Shubhman Gill is 2nd in the race with 576 runs in 13 innings. Rajasthan Royals' opener Yashaswi Jaiswal is 3rd on the list with 575 runs in 13 innings. Chennai’s Devon Conway is 4th with 498 runs in 12 innings. Mumbai’s Suryakumar Yadav is 5th with 486 runs in 13 innings.

IPL 223 Updated Purple cap:

Purple Cap race also remained unchanged in the Delhi vs Punjab encounter. Along with the race for playoffs, the purple cap race is also getting tighter. Gujarat Titans' pacer Mohammed Shami is currently the purple cap holder with 23 wickets in 13 games. Shami is Gujarat’s trump card in the powerplay. His teammate Rashid Khan is second in the race with 23 wickets in 13 games. Rajasthan Royals' leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is 3rd on the list with 21 wickets. Chahal won the purple cap in the IPL 2022 as well. Mumbai’s Piyush Chawla is 4th in the race with 20 wickets in 13 games. KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy is 5th on the list with 19 wickets.

What’s in the IPL on Thursday?

In a quest for a place in the top 4, Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Bangalore are fighting hard for a place in playoffs along with Punjab, Mumbai, and Lucknow. Sunrisers Hyderabad have been knocked out of the tournament along with Delhi Capitals. Hyderabad have won only 4 of their 13 games. Royal Challengers Bangalore need a win to stay in the race. In the IPL 2022, RCB were knocked out of qualifier 2. In the IPL 2023, RCB have still got two games left in the league round. This is one big advantage for them in the playoffs race. Others are left with only one game.
