IPL 2023 Updated points table, Orange cap & Purple cap after Match 67 & 68, DC vs CSK & KKR vs LSG

Chennai Super Kings defeated DC in the afternoon game, while Lucknow defeated KKR in the evening game to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs.

In a thriller of a game, Lucknow Super Giants came out victorious by just 1 run against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Rinku Singh was once again the center of attraction with his flamboyant batting in the final overs. Rinku required 21 runs to chase in the last over, but he could only score 16 runs with the bat in the last over. Batting first, Lucknow scored 176 runs on the board with contributions from Nicholas Pooran (58), Quinton de Kock (28). Kolkata had a brilliant start to their chase with a 61 runs-opening partnership from Jason Roy (45) and Venkatesh Iyer (24). KKR panicked in the middle overs, later on, Rinku Singh played a magical knock of 67 runs in 33 balls smashing 6 fours and 4 sixes. Ravi Bishnoi had a great game with the ball for LSG. He took 2 wickets in his 4 overs conceding only 23 runs.

Chennai Super Kings thrashed Delhi Capitals by a huge margin of 77 runs. Batting first, Chennai Super Kings smashed Delhi bowlers all around the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium. With an outstanding opening partnership from Ruturaj Gaikwad (79) and Devon Conway (87) Chennai got the momentum to put on a huge total. Later on, Shivam Dube (22) and Ravindra Jadeja (20) finished the inning with their blistering cameos. Chasing 224, Delhi's batting once again failed. Apart from captain David Warner (86), no other batter could go on to score big. CSK's Deepak Chahar (3/22) had a great game with the ball and helped restrict Delhi to just 146.

IPL 2023 Updated Points table:

With a convincing win over Delhi Capitals, Chennai have secured 2nd place in the points table and became only the second team to qualify for playoffs in the IPL 2023. Lucknow Super Giants have become the 3rd team to qualify for the IPL playoffs along with Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. Lucknow with a win over Kolkata have finished their league round with 17 points. Kolkata ended their campaign with 12 points and in 8th place. Chennai Super Kings will now take on Gujarat Titans one qualifier 1 at Chepauk. Chennai have 17 points in 14 games. Delhi Capitals ended their campaign with only 5 wins this season. They are placed 9th in the table with only 10 points.

IPL 2023 Updated Orange cap:

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis is still the orange cap holder with 702 runs in 13 games. Chennai’s Devon Conway had a brilliant game against Delhi Capitals and scored 87 runs. Conway’s inning made him jump to 3rd place in the race with 585 runs in 13 innings. Conway has been a consistent run-scorer for CSK this season. Rajasthan Royals Yashaswi Jaiswal is 2nd in the list with 625 runs in 14 innings. Jaiswal had a great IPL season and also played a few blistering knocks. Gujarat Titans Shubhman Gill is 4th in the list with 576 runs. RCB’s Virat Kohli is 5th in the race with 538 runs.

IPL 2023 Updated Purple cap:

Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami is leading the purple cap race with 23 wickets. There will be a battle for the purple cap between Rashid and Shami on Sunday when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore. Rashid Khan is chasing Shami and he’s 2nd in the race with 23 wickets. Rajasthan Royals' Yuzvendra Chahal is 3rd on the list with 21 wickets. Chahal was the winner of the purple cap in the IPL 2022. Mumbai’s Piyush Chawla is 4th in the race with 20 wickets in 13 games. He will have an opportunity to get the lead against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kolkata’s Varun Chakravarthy is 5th with 20 wickets.

What's in the IPL on Sunday?

The IPL 2023 will get its 4th team in the playoffs on Sunday. Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings have already qualified for the playoffs and will take on each other in Qualifier 1. Lucknow Super Giants are 3rd in the table and waiting for their opponent in eliminator 1. Sunday afternoon will host Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Mumbai Indians at Wankhede and then Gujarat Titans taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Mumbai Indians and Bangalore both need a victory to make an entry as the 4th place team in the playoffs. If both of them lose, Rajasthan Royals will cherish their good luck as they have got better NRR than MI and RCB.
