Punjab Kings registered their 2nd win of the IPL 2023.

A King like performance from Punjab Kings gave Rajasthan Royals a reality check for the upcoming IPL 2023 games. Punjab with an all-round effort will move to the next game with 2 more points in their kit bag. Punjab Kings opener Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh put PBKS in command in the first 10 overs of the game. Prabhsimran Singh scored 60 runs in 34 balls, while Captain Dhawan remained unbeaten on 86. In the second innings, Arshdeep and Nathan Ellis never gave Royal Top order any chance to set themselves. Yet in the lower order, Dhruv Jurel and Shmron Hetmyer with their hitting scared PBKS the business end. Both added 62 runs in 27 balls. Even after Jurel's 32 runs in 15 balls Royals fell short by 5 runs in chasing 198. Arshdeep picked up 2 wickets while Nathan Ellis bagged 4.

IPL 2023 Updated Points Table

With a dominating win over Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings have moved to Number two in the points table. Punjab and Gujarat are the Top 2 teams in IPL 2023 after the 8th game. Both of them have won the back to back games in Indian Premier League 2023. Rajasthan with a setback in Wednesday's game has moved down to number 4 now. Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai are yet to open their account in the points table. This is for the third time Punjab Kings have won their first two opening games. Before 2023, in 2014 and 2017 they managed to win their first two clashes.

Shikhar Dhawan enters Orange Cap race

Captain Dhawan with his unbeaten 86 runs knock has challenged the Top 2 in the Orange Cap race. Only three batters in the IPL 2023 have scored more than 100 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad with 149 runs is at the top. Kyle Mayers and Shikhar Dhawan with 126 runs share the second position. Shikhar has a better batting average of 126 than Kyle Mayers. Sanju Samson with 42 runs inning against Punjab Kings on Wednesday has entered at number 4. He has scored 97 runs in 2 innings. David Warner with 93 runs in two innings is at Number 5.

Arshdeep Singh marks the entry in Purple Cap Top 5 list

In the Purple Cap race, Lucknow’s Mark Wood still led the chart with 8 wickets. Punjab Kings pacer Nathan Ellis has jumped to second place after his 4 wickets spell against Rajasthan Royals. Ellis has picked up 5 wickets in the IPL 2023. Arshdeep with 5 wickets is at number 5 . Arshdeep had picked up 3 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mohali. Three leg spinners, Rashid Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, and Yuzvendra Chahal share the wickets tally. All three have got 5 wickets in the IPL 2023 so far.

What's in the IPL on Thursday?

On Thursday, Virat Kohli will be back in action at iconic Eden Gardens. Royal Challengers Bangalore will be taking on host Kolkata Knight Riders. RCB had defeated MI handsomely in their opening game and they are high on confidence. On the other hand, KKR looked weak against Punjab Kings. They will surely look to use the home advantage of Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
