IPL 2023 Updated points table, Orange cap & Purple cap after Match 9 between KKR & RCB

Kolkata Knight Riders opened their account in the IPL 2023 points table with 81-run victory over RCB.

After a poor show against Punjab Kings, Kolkata have registered a dominating win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023. Shardul Thakur’s finishing gave KKR a breather after a few early blows and they posted 207 runs on the board. RCB after losing their momentum at KKR’s final overs, failed to bounce back. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and newcomer Suyash Sharma spin a web against the RCB batsmen to defeat them by a heavy margin of 81 runs. Shardul Thakur played a magnificent inning of 68 runs in 29 balls. KKR’s spin trio picked up 9 wickets out of 10 in the RCB innings.

With a win in their second game of this season’s Indian Premier League, KKR have opened their account in the points table. Kolkata with 2 points in 2 games have jumped four places from Wednesday and placed themselves at No. 3. RCB with this heavy loss have dropped down to 7th position and their NRR has dipped drastically. Gujarat Titans are at the Top position and Punjab Kings are second on the list. Now Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are yet to open their account.

Former Captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli made an entry in the Top 5 list of Orange Cap contenders. Virat with 21 runs with his bat against Kolkata Knight Riders has settled himself at Number 4 with 103 runs in 2 innings. Virat Kohli scored 82 runs against Mumbai in the opening game of RCB. He became the 4th Batter to score more than 100 runs in IPL 2023. Ruturaj Gaikwad is still at the top with 149 runs in 2 innings for CSK. Shikhar Dhawan is at second position with 126 runs, Kyle Mayers is at third spot with 126 runs. David Warner is at fifth position with 93 runs in 2 innings for Delhi Capitals.

In the Purple Cap list, there was no change from Wednesday. Nathan Ellis after his match winning spell against Rajasthan Royals jumped to the second position after Mark Wood. Wood is leading the purple cap race with 8 wickets in 2 games for Lucknow. Ellis picked up 4 wickets against RR. After Mark Wood, the rest four in the Top 5 list share the same number of wickets. Overall 6 bowlers after Mark Wood are tied with 5 wickets in IPL 2023. Nathan Ellis, Rashid Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh are chasing Mark Wood respectively in the top 5 list. There were no changes seen in the list of top 5 wicket takers of the season after the 9th match of the season between KKR and RCB.

What's in IPL on Friday?

Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium will be ready to host Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday. Both the teams lost their previous game. Lucknow was beaten by CSK while Hyderabad got a crushing defeat against Rajasthan Royals. This game will mark the entry of South Africans from the teams. Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klassen, and Marco Jansen will be back for SRH, while Quinton De Kock will make his entry into Lucknow’s eleven.
