Former Indian cricketer Salim Durani passes away aged 88

The all-rounder, Salim Durani was known to hit sixes at will during his playing career.
Former Indian all–rounder and one of the Indian cricket legends Salim Durani passed away on Sunday morning. Durani breathed his last at the age of 88 years. Salim was settled with his brother Jahangir in Jamnagar, Gujarat. He had undergone surgery in January this year since then he had developed a few health implications.
Born to an Afghani Pathan family in Kabul, Durani made a big name among Cricket fans around the World. While playing for his country at the international level and also in domestic cricket Durani earned the reputation of a big hitter.
A player with a long cricket career
All–rounder Salim Durani had played 29 Test matches for India, he had a 24-year-long Cricket career in the Indian domestic circuit. He started his career with Saurashtra in 1953 then moved to Gujarat in 1954 to 95, finally settling in Rajasthan for about 22 years. Rajasthan Cricket Association time and again thanked Durani for his services. Salim Durani had the reputation of hitting sixes on demand. In 1960 he made his test debut against Australia at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. In his 13-year-long International cricket career, he has played 29 tests for India.
When Salim Durani wrote history for India
Known for his aggressive approach, Durani in his 29 Tests scored 1202 runs at an average of 25.04 and picked up 75 wickets with the ball. Durani played a crucial role in India’s series win against England in 1961, also he made a roaring comeback in 1971 in India’s historic tour of West Indies. Durani sent Clive Lloyd and Garry Sobers back into the dressing room with his magical spell and contributed to India's magical test win against Invincible West Indies during that time.
In the Indian Premier League 2023, he was remembered by everyone before the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals clash on Sunday. Both the teams and fans kept a two-minute silence and players were on the field wearing black armbands. Players like Salim Durani come once in a while, He was in the memory of almost everyone who adored Cricket closely.
