IPL 2023: Watch - Varun Chakravarthy bamboozles Shikhar Dhawan

Kolkata Knight Riders' mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy removed the PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan for 40.

India’s cricket carnival is on its second day. Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings are taking on each other at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Punjab Kings in IPL 2023 have decided to go with Shikhar Dhawan as their new skipper. They had released Mayank Agarwal from the team after their poor show in last Indian Premier League. Shikhar Dhawan started well against Kolkata Knight Riders and provided a good start to his team. Shikhar Dhawan before getting bamboozled by Varun Chakravarthy, scored 40 runs in 29 balls.

Varun Chakravarthy bamboozles Shikhar Dhawan

Known as one of Kolkata’s mystery spinners, Varun Chakravarthy had a wonderful outing with the ball at PCA Stadium in Mohali. Chakravarthy in his quota of 4 overs, gave only 26 runs and ended up picking Dhawan. He castled Dhawan when the batsman looked set and dangerous for KKR. In his innings of 6 fours, Dhawan looked in a bit of trouble against Varun. In the 15th over he failed to read Varun’s straighter one skidding down the leg and ended up losing his precious wicket. Shikhar Dhawan is yet to score a half – century as a captain in Indian Premier League.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rajapaksha's wonderful partnership for PBKS

For Punjab Kings, Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh came as openers. Prabhsimran in the first two overs played few shots and got back in the dugout quickly due to his over aggressive game play earlier in the innings. Captain Dhawan, then tried to build a partnership with Sri Lankan Bhanuka Rajapaksha who scored 50. Both of them added 86 runs for the second wicket. This gave Punjab a chance to score 191 runs in their quota of 20 overs. Punjab Kings are in search of their first ever IPL title and banking heavily on Shikhar Dhawan’s game and leadership skills.

Pacer Umesh Yadav and spinner Varun Chakravarthy had a wonderful game with the ball so far. Umesh, in his quota of 4 overs conceded only 27 runs with picking up an important wicket of Bhanuka Rajapaksha. While Varun castled Dhawan and gave only 26 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Kolkata to start their IPL 16 on a winning note, require 192 runs in 20 overs.
