IPL 2024: Massive boost for Delhi Capitals as fast bowler Anrich Nortje joins camp ahead of their second match
Anrich Nortje has been part of the Delhi Capitals since IPL 2020.
Delhi Capitals (DC) fans have an extra reason to celebrate on Holi as the franchise announced the return of South African pacer Anrich Nortje. Despite previous injury setbacks, DC retained Nortje for IPL 2024, and his comeback was marked in style. The South African speedster rejoined the squad ahead of their second match of the season against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, March 25, after missing their opening game.
After recovering from a stress fracture, Nortje faced a lengthy rehabilitation period, causing him to miss major tournaments like the ODI World Cup and home series against India. However, his return sparked excitement among his teammates, as seen in a video shared by DC on social media.
In the video, Nortje expressed his eagerness to rejoin the team, while his fellow players rejoiced at his comeback. Having played 10 matches for Delhi in IPL 2023, Nortje’s comeback injects added firepower into the team’s bowling department. His return comes at a critical juncture for DC, aiming to fortify their bowling lineup following a lackluster start to the season.

In their IPL 2024 opener against Punjab Kings, DC, led by Rishabh Pant, suffered a disappointing loss in Mullanpur. Pant’s return to competitive action was marred by an unsettled performance from the team.
Additionally, experienced fast bowler Ishant Sharma encountered an injury scare during the match, twisting his ankle while fielding after delivering two tight overs. Despite posting a respectable total of 174 runs, DC fell short as Punjab Kings, propelled by Sam Curran’s half-century and a late cameo from Liam Livingstone, secured victory in their opening game.
