IPL 2024: "Arshdeep Singh is as good as Bhuvneshwar Kumar" - Eoin Morgan makes big claim
Arshdeep Singh picked four wickets in PBKS’ narrow loss to SRH in Punjab on Tuesday.
Former England captain Eoin Morgan has made a big claim after seeing Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) fast bowler Arshdeep Singh’s performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Despite a wonderful performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday night in IPL 2024, Singh ended up on the losing side.
Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and asked Pat Cummins and his team to bat first on what appeared to be a solid batting surface at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur.
Following a solid start from SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, Arshdeep Singh grabbed Head’s opening wicket on the second delivery of the third over, with the visitors on 27. One ball later in the fourth over, number three batsman Aiden Markram was out for a two-ball duck.
Sam Curran and Harshal Patel joined the party, prompting Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi to leave for 16 and 11 respectively. Then, Hyderabad’s number 4 and number 6 batsmen, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen, put up 36 runs before Harshal dismissed the South African.
Abdul Samad and Reddy then shared a 50-run stand, and just as Punjab needed to break it, Arshdeep Singh stepped up and claimed Samad in the third ball and Reddy in the fifth of the 16th over.
Needs to be more consistent: Eoin Morgan says Arshdeep Singh is Bhuvneshwar Kumar 2.0
While speaking with Jio Cinema after seeing Arshdeep Singh register 4/29 in a losing cause, Eoin Morgan advised Arshdeep to aim on consistency now.
“Yeah they did, they really did, set the game for PBKS. Put themselves into a commanding position and a particular level of expectations on his shoulder now. Even previous IPL performances and performance in an Indian shirt, have created the pressure that he’s under and he just has to try and continue to raise that level of consistency,” Morgan said while speaking on Jio Cinema.
Morgan said that Arshdeep can swing the ball both ways and is as good as swing king Bhuvneshwar Kumar but he needs to be consistent with his bowling performances.
“You know his ability to swing the ball both ways is exceptional. As good as Bhuvi at his best, you would say obviously different angles. So adds that under threat as well,” Morgan added.
