Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought a total of 6 players in the IPL 2024 auction.
Before the IPL 2024 auction, the Chennai Super Kings aimed to expand their squad by bringing in 6 new players for the upcoming season. They specifically wanted to include 3 overseas players in this recruitment drive. To maintain continuity and stability, the team chose to retain 19 players from the previous season, including 5 overseas players.
With a substantial budget of 31.40 crore, the Chennai Super Kings demonstrated smart and strategic use of their funds during the auction. They bought the likes of Daryl Mitchell, Sameer Rizvi, Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman, Rachin Ravindra, Avinash Rao Aravelly.
Chennai Super Kings won fifth title in IPL 2023
The Chennai Super Kings capped off a successful IPL campaign by clinching the championship title. Throughout the 14 league games they participated in, CSK secured victory in 8 matches, experienced defeat in 5, and one match was unfortunately called off due to rain. In the playoffs, they triumphed over the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, and in the final, these two teams faced off again, with the Chennai Super Kings emerging victorious once more by defeating the Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets, employing the DLS method. In the entirety of the tournament, CSK played 16 matches, winning 10, losing 5, and experiencing one rain-induced match called off.
Notably, Devon Conway showcased exceptional batting performances for Chennai Super Kings in these 16 matches, accumulating a total of 672 runs with a highest score of 92*, averaging 51.69, and boasting a strike rate of 139.70. Conway secured 6 half-centuries and played a pivotal role in CSK’s success.
On the bowling front, Tushar Deshpande stood out with 21 wickets in 16 matches and an economy rate of 9.92, contributing significantly to CSK’s bowling success in the tournament.
