IPL 2024 auction: RCB acquire Alzarri Joseph for a whopping 11.5 crores

Alzarri Joseph entered the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of INR 1 crore.
West Indian players are always in demand in the Indian Premier League. The IPL franchises like to have big West Indian hitters in their team and bid for them at the auction. But the IPL 2024 auction saw West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph get a massive deal from the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 27-year-old will play for RCB in the 17th edition of the league.
Alzarri Joseph made history when he made his IPL debut in 2019 for the Mumbai Indians. MI picked him up as a replacement, and he played his maiden IPL game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. On his debut, he registered the best bowling figures in IPL history and ended with 6/12 in just 3.4 overs. He helped MI defend a low total of 137 and register a win by 40 runs.

The fierce pacer, Alzarri Joseph, has been a key member for West Indies across formats. He has been consistent for his team and is doing well in all three formats. Hence, he got the reward for his consistency. There were a few IPL franchises that were interested in him. But eventually, it was the Royal Challengers Bangalore that signed him at a price of INR 11.5 crore.

In his debut season, the pacer played only three matches for MI and took six wickets. Then, he was released by the franchise. In 2022, the Gujarat Titans picked him at a price of INR 2.4 crore. He played nine games, took seven wickets, and was part of the winning season for the GT.
Then, in 2023, he was retained by the franchise and played seven matches and took seven wickets with the ball. Overall, he has played 19 games and taken 20 wickets at an economy rate of 9.19. Though his overall performance doesn’t look good, his current form is pretty good, and he is an improved bowler now. But his biggest challenge will be to bowl in Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is a dream paradise for batters.
