IPL 2024: "Not looking good.." massive update on Deepak Chahar's injury from CSK coach

Deepak Chahar has been injury-prone for last few seasons and even missed two matches in IPL 2024.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming gave a massive and worrying update about pace Deepak Chahar’s injury in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Chahar made his return in CSK’s match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 1, after missing two games with a niggle earlier in this season.
On Wednesday, May 1, the CSK lost to PBKS by seven wickets at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In the IPL 2024, it was their second home loss. Despite the defeat, the Chennai squad is now in fourth place in the standings.
Important players Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana were absent for the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team. A niggle kept Pathirana out of the game, and illness kept Deshpande out of the starting lineup.
And to make things worse, Deepak Chahar’s comeback lasted two balls. Chahar felt something in his leg and pulled up while bowling the third ball and after a chat with captain Ruturaj, went off the field and didn’t return.
Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good: Stephen Fleming
Shardul Thakur had to complete the over for Chahar. In the post-match press conference, CSK coach Stephen Fleming didn’t specify the nature – and extent – of Chahar’s injury, he suggested that early signs weren’t promising.
“Yeah, the travelogue is pretty busy. There’s a lot of ins and outs. So, Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good. The initial feeling wasn’t great. So, I’m hoping for a more positive report when the physio and the doctor have a look,” Fleming was quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
According to Stephen Fleming, they were compelled to alter their starting lineup. According to the ex-captain of New Zealand, the team is changing its strategy in a short amount of time.
“Richard Gleeson was good, he was positive. Tushar Deshpande got flu, so we had to make a few changes today, which is a bit unusual. But again that’s part of it and we have got resources. It’s just they haven’t got time to be comfortable about their roles and us to be comfortable with the game plan that we are struggling with,” Fleming added.
On Sunday, May 5, Chennai will play Punjab Kings in the reserve fixture at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. To improve their prospects of making the playoffs, CSK must win the next game. In the IPL 2024, they have to win three of their next four games.
