IPL 2024: Chennai to host final, Ahmedabad to host two playoff matches – Reports

Chennai had also hosted the opening match of IPL 2024 on March 22 featuring CSK and RCB.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final will reportedly be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai tentatively on May 26. Apart from this, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the two playoff matches.

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai hosted the opening match of the IPL 2024 which was played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22. The home team CSK featuring MS Dhoni defeated Virat Kohli starring RCB team by a comfortable margin.

This report comes as the BCCI is set to announce the schedule for the remainder of the IPL 2024. As per the CricketNext report, the IPL Governing Council is reworking its first draft of the second phase of the ongoing season so as to avoid any potential clashes with the polling dates.

Chennai to host the IPL 2024 final; Ahmedabad to get 2 crucial playoff matches  

As per a PTI report, the IPL Governing Council has decided to hold both the inaugural match and the IPL 2024 final at the home ground of the previous year’s champions, a continuation of this tradition.

In this case, the defending champions, the Chennai Super Kings, will have the privilege of hosting these important contests in their home city. With Mahendra Singh Dhoni playing his last IPL, knockout games in Chennai will be a treat for all the ‘Thala’ fans.

“The IPL Governing Council has followed the tradition of holding the opening game and final at the home venue of last year’s defending champions – in this case Chennai Super Kings,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.

It has been learnt that Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will hold one Qualifier and one Eliminator while another Qualifier will be held in Chennai.

The IPL organizers released the schedule for the first 21 matches and 15 days earlier in the month.
