IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans' David Miller ruled out for 1-2 weeks
David Miller has been a pillar of GT batting since the franchise’s inception in 2022.
Gujarat Titans (GT) have been dealt a huge blow as they will miss their dynamic finisher South Africa’s David Miller for 1-2 weeks due to injury. This was confirmed by the franchise’s overseas batter Kane Williamson during GT’s match against PBKS in IPL 2024 on April 4, 2024.
After PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and opted to bowl first, GT captain Shubman Gill informed that Miller would not be playing the big game. Due to the South African star’s unavailability, New Zealand great Kane Williamson was included in the playing XI of the Titans for the first time this season.
According to skipper Gill, David Miller missed the big showdown owing to a niggle. Miller was a member of the Titans XI in the previous three games of the season.
Miller propelled GT to an amazing victory over SRH in the IPL 2024. The Proteas hitter hammered 44 off 27 balls to secure GT’s seven-wicket win. Miller hit four fours and two sixes in his exciting innings for the Titans. He stayed undefeated as GT completed their 163-run chase in 19.1 overs.
Shame to lose David Miller for a week or two: Kane Williamson
Miller has been a key pillar of the Titans’ batting since their inception, and this is only the second match he has missed for GT. The South African star has played 35 matches for GT, in which he has 817 runs at an average of 48.05 and a strike rate of 143.58.
However, after the first innings, Kane Williamson, who replaced David Miller in the playing XI, revealed that the latter has been ruled out for at least one to two weeks in the ongoing tournament.
Williamson said during mid-innings chat: “Nice to be out there, shame to lose Davey (Miller) for a week or two. It’s a reasonably competitive total, hopefully our bowlers can do the job in the second half. There’s a little bit there with the new ball, was trying to navigate through, a bit of sideways movement and swing on offer and hopefully, our bowlers can exploit that.
Talking about Shubman Gill’s captaincy, Williamson said, “He has just started, a great cricket brain, what a gifted player, leads by example, and he will keep growing with experience. (On the dew factor) There isn’t any at the moment which is good, so hopefully our spinners will come into play, we have two overseas spinners in Rashid and Noor, there’s a bit of hold in the pitch and some bounce for the spinners.”
GT batted beautifully to put up 199/4 in 20 overs against Punjab Kings on Thursday. Captain Shubman Gill topped with 89*, while Kane Williamson made 26. Sai Sudharsan (33 in 19) and Rahul Tewatia (23* in 8) played good cameos to power GT to a solid total.
