Jos Buttler scored 359 runs in 11 matches he played for RR in the IPL 2024 including two hundreds.

After suffering three consecutive defeats in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been dealt with another major blow as their star overseas opener Jos Buttler has left the camp and flew back to home in the UK.

The wicket-keeper batter, who smashed two match-winning centuries in the first half of the IPL 2024, left for England after Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan suffered a five-wicket loss against defending champions Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on May 12.

The 2008 champions RR, will play their last two league stage matches against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 15 and against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 19. However, they will miss the services of veteran batter Buttler. While RR are on brink of playoffs qualification, it will be a tough task for the franchise to fill shoes of Buttler at top of the order.

In the ongoing edition, Buttler amassed 359 runs in 11 matches at an impressive strike rate of 140.78 and an average of 39.98. His highest score of unbeaten 107 came against KKR, where he guided Rajasthan to a thrilling victory.

Rajasthan Royals confirms Jos Buttler departure

Rajasthan posted a video on their social handle ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) where they confirmed about the departure of Buttler. “We’ll miss you, Jos bhai! 🥺💗,” captioned the post.

Why is Jos Buttler heading back to England?

Earlier, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced their initial squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and they also confirmed that all the selected players featured in the IPL 2024 will not be available for the playoffs as they will have to feature in a T20I series against Pakistan, which will start on May 22.

The members of the England’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad, who are currently playing in the IPL 2024, including Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Phil Salt and Reece Topley, will also return home in the coming days in order to play the first T20I against Pakistan.
