IPL 2024: Big blow for KKR as their costliest buy Mitchell Starc suffers injury

Mitchell Starc has so far taken six wickets in seven matches in IPL 2024.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) costliest buy at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, Mitchell Starc has performed below par in the ongoing tournament which has been a concern for his side. He has not been in the bowling form that he is known for.

In the seven matches he has played in IPL 2024, Starc has given 287 runs while picking up only six wickets with best bowling of 3/28. His economy has been 11.48 and in the most recent match for KKR, Starc went for 55 runs in his quota of three overs.

Starc was tasked to defend 21 runs in the last over but was hit for three sixes by Karn Sharma and the Australian pace great barely managed to defend the total, after he had dismissed Karn Sharma, via a brilliant caught and bowled.

KS Bharat reveals that Mitchell Starc suffered injury in the first over of the match itself

According to a new disclosure, Starc had an injury in his hand while playing versus the Red Army. KKR wicket-keeper KS Bharat confirmed that Mitchell Starc was not fully ready to face RCB. Bharat was giving a speech in the dressing room after the one-run thriller win, and he said that Starc was injured in his first over.

Starc is a particularly injury-prone fast bowler, and if the problem persists, KKR could be in severe danger this season. Despite being second in the points standings, the Knight Riders must improve their ball control to ensure a deep playoff run.

Aside from Starc, the Men in Purple have two Indian pacers, Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora. Aside from them, Russell bowls for KKR but has been a little pricey.

KKR will next host PBKS at the Eden Gardens on Thursday this week, and whether Mitchell Starc plays or not, will depend on the improvement of his injury.
