IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) appoint new vice-captain; Snub Krunal Pandya

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named KL Rahul’s deputy for IPL 2024.
In a massive step ahead of upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named Nicholas Pooran as their vice-captain. Krunal Pandya was KL Rahul’s deputy last season and even captained the side after KL Rahul was ruled out mid-season.
Lucknow Super Giants have also confirmed that KL Rahul will lead the franchise. Rahul led Lucknow to playoffs in two successive seasons since the team’s debut in the IPL. Lucknow finished at fourth place in the IPL 2022 and 2023. Nicholas Pooran was bought by Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2023 auction for a whopping 16 crores.
Lucknow Super Giants made the announcement through social media channels. They posted a picture of captain KL Rahul presenting Nicholas Pooran with his team jersey numbered ’29’ and written ‘VC’ below his name.
“KL Rahul (C) Nicholas Pooran (VC). This season feels special already 💙” posted LSG on their social media handles.
Rahul is currently away from the Indian camp due to an injury. Rahul had to miss the remainder of the ongoing IND vs ENG five-match test series following quadriceps injury in first test.
Lucknow Super Giants spent a whooping INR 16 crores on the West Indies batter. Nicholas Pooran has got experience of leading his national side as well as in the Caribbean Premier League. Lucknow will be looking to leverage his experience and explosive batting ability. Pooran played 15 matches for LSG in the last IPL season and scored 358 runs at an average of 29.83 and strike rate of 172.5, he also scored two fifties.
Overall, Nicholas Pooran has so far played 62 matches in the IPL and scored 1270 runs. Pooran also represented Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. Lucknow Super Giants will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Rajasthan Royals on 24th March, 2024 at SMS stadium, Jaipur, while the tournament will begin on 22nd March.
