IPL 2024: Mayank Yadav ruled out of LSG's next two matches, confirms coach Justin Langer
Mayank Yadav bowled the fastest delivery of the IPL 2024 at 156.7 KMPH.
The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has introduced some brilliant, uncapped Indian talent to the world. We have seen some incredible Indian batters in the IPL 2024 who have impressed everyone with their skills. But one bowler who has certainly caught attention is Mayank Yadav. The pacer from Lucknow Super Giants made his mark with his bowling speed and clocked at nearly 157 kmph.
The 21-year-old, who hails from West Delhi, made his debut against Punjab Kings and picked up three wickets to win the Man of the Match award. He followed it up with another MOTM performance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, his third IPL match didn’t go well, and he only bowled one over and had to leave the field after a niggle. He didn’t come out to bowl after that.
“Mayank Yadav will not play tomorrow”- Justin Langer ahead of LSG vs DC clash on Friday
In just two days, Mayank Yadav became an important part of the LSG bowling attack. Though they have a backup in Mohsin Khan, LSG will hope that he can get fit as early as possible. The LSG head coach, Justin Langer, shed light on his availability. In a press conference on Thursday, Langer said that Mayank felt tightness on the top of his hip. He also said that the pacer went through the scans, and it confirmed a tiny swelling.
“He felt a little bit of tightness at the top of his hip leading into the last game, but that was about a one-out-of-ten pain, and we thought that there were clinical signs. Everything through the doctors and the physios seemed perfectly okay. He bowled that first over [against Titans] and started feeling something in his hip. But we had an MRI scan, and there is a very, very small swelling in there. So we are very hopeful he’ll start building himself up and be back bowling again soon.” said Langer as quoted by EspnCricinfo.
LSG will face Delhi Capitals on Friday at home in their next game. After two days, Lucknow will travel to Kolkata to face KKR at Eden Gardens. The pacer won’t make those games but is likely to be available for the game against CSK on April 19. Langer said, “That’s the plan [to have Mayank fit for the match against Chennai Super Kings on April 19]. We want him to play every game if possible.”
Langer added that Mohsin is fit and will play the game against DC. LSG are currently third on the points table with six points. They lost the first game but then won three consecutive matches. DC have struggled so far, and it will be a good chance for Lucknow to jump to the top of the table.
