IPL 2024: Massive blow for Mumbai Indians as Suryakumar Yadav to miss first 2 matches – Reports

Suryakumar Yadav had undergone surgery for sports hernia in Germany.
Suryakumar Yadav‘s recuperation is on pace, but there is no certainty he will be ready to play in the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) first two Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) matches. If one looks at the current situation of the right-handed batter, the possibilities are limited.
Surya, who has been out of action since December of last year, is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In January, he underwent surgery in Germany due to a sports hernia.
MI will begin their season on Sunday, March 24, two days after the IPL 2024 tournament opener between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), against last year’s runners-up Gujarat Titans (GT).

According to a BCCI source, the NCA medical team might not give clearance to Surya to take part in the first two matches of this season’s IPL.
“Suryakumar Yadav’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself. However, it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27),” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Instagram handle shows that he has been performing a lot of Strength and Conditioning (S&C) routines, but he has yet to publish any of his batting videos, which will give a good idea of how he is developing. Suryakumar’s last competitive match was a Twenty20 International against South Africa on December 14.
“There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself,” the source said.
Suryakumar is the most vital player in India’s T20I set-up with a strike rate of 171-plus and 2,141 runs in 60 T20I games. He has four T20I hundreds to his credit. He also led India to a T20I series win at home against Australia after the ODI World Cup.
