IPL 2024: Massive blow for DC as Mitchell Marsh flies back home due to hamstring injury

Mitchell Marsh scored 61 runs and took one wicket for Delhi Capitals in four matches in IPL 2024.

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has flied back to Australia for further treatment of his hamstring injury, which he suffered during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, according to reports. The overseas all-rounder suffered the injury against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 3. However, in the match, he came out to bat and was dismissed for a duck.

Before the clash against five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), DC’s director of cricket Sourav Ganguly, during the pre-match conference on April 6, revealed Marsh has suffered an injury and won’t be available for the match.

However, after the game, the Capitals’ assistant coach, Pravin Amre, provided a crucial update on Marsh’s injury.

“A few of our players are injured, and the worrying sign is Mitch Marsh,” Pravin Amre said

“He has gone for a scan and the physios will give us a report in a week’s time. Then we will come to know what the exact situation is. Whether he can play the entire season or not depends on the reports,” he added.

Marsh also missed Capitals’ next fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants. Till now, the DC all-rounder has played four games in the IPL 2024. Marsh has scored just 61 runs and managed to pick one wicket in the ongoing tournament.

Mitchell Marsh returns to Australia for further treatment

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the Australian all-rounder has returned home to treat his hamstring injury. The report further added that Cricket Australia (CA) decided to take this precautionary step as Marsh suffered a partial tear in his right hamstring and he will only return to India after recovering fully.

It is understood that with the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 taking place just after the IPL 2024, CA didn’t want to take any risk with Marsh. It is to be noted that the all-rounder is line to lead the Australian team in the marquee event. However, there is no official confirmation by the Delhi-franchise till now.
