Mohit Sharma conceded 31 runs in the last over of the innings.

During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, Gujarat Titans (GT) seamer Mohit Sharma achieved the poorest bowling stats in IPL history.

Shubman Gill, captain of GT, had won the toss and chose to bowl first. Delhi Capitals (DC) openers Prithvi Shaw (11) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (23) gave a decent start to the team with 35 runs in 3.2 overs. But then they lost a few wickets in the bunch, including that of Shai Hope (5).

At 44/3, Axar Patel was joined by Rishabh Pant at the crease and the duo first rebuilt the innings and then accelerated like crazy in the last few overs. Axar Patel made 66 in 43 balls with five fours and four sixes. The left-handed all-rounder added 113 runs for the fourth wicket with Rishabh Pant.

Pant, on the other end, stepped furiously on the gas pedal and went berserk on GT bowlers. He got able support from Tristan Stubbs, who slammed 26 in 7 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. But Rishabh Pant played a captain’s knock, scoring 88* in 43 balls with five fours and eight sixes.

Mohit Sharma goes for 73 runs in his 4 overs, creating a record for the most expensive bowling spell in an IPL match

Four of Rishabh Pant’s sixes came in the final of the DC innings, bowled by Mohit Sharma. Mohit was tasked by captain Shubman Gill to bowl the 20th over and he had already gone for 42 runs in his 3 overs.

However, Pant hammered him for four sixes, one four, and a double to get 30 runs (31 runs in total with one wide) from that over as DC finished on 224/4 in 20 overs.

Notably, Mohit Sharma finished with figures of 0/73 in his 4 overs and broke Basil Thampi’s unwanted record for conceding the most runs in an IPL match. Mohit is only one of two bowlers to concede 70-plus runs in an IPL match.

Also, Mohit’s 0/73 is the seventh-worst ever in T20 history.

Here are the top five worst bowling spells in IPL history

1. Mohit Sharma – 0/73

2. Basil Thampi – 0/70

3. Yash Dayal – 0/69

4. Reece Topley – 1/68

5. Arshdeep Singh – 0/66
