IPL 2024: Most runs, most wickets after match 4 & 5, RR vs LSG & GT vs MI

RR and GT won their respective games against LSG and MI on Sunday in the IPL 2024.

Riding on their captain Sanju Samson’s onslaught and Trent Boult’s brilliance, Rajasthan Royals (RR) started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign with a 20-run victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on March 24.

Earlier, RR won the toss and opted to bat first. Samson’s stunning knock of 82 runs and his 93-run partnership with Riyan Parag guided his side to a total of 193/4 runs. Parag was dismissed after scoring 43 runs off 29 balls, which included three sixes and a four in his innings.

Chasing a target of 193 runs, LSG captain KL Rahul scored 58 while Nicholas Pooran played a crucial unbeaten knock of 64. For RR, Trent Boult bagged two wickets, while Nandre Burger, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Sandeep Sharma scalped one wicket each. In the end, the Royals won the match by 20 runs.

What happened in match 5 of IPL 2024 between GT and MI?

In match 5 of the IPL 2024 between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI), newly appointed MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Sunday.

Coming back into the IPL after a one-season injury lay-off, Bumrah had brilliant figures of 3 for 14. For the hosts, Sai Sudharsan top scored with 45 off 39 balls. While GT new skipper Shubman Gill smashed 31 runs off 22 balls,. Bumrah’s spell helped the visitors restrict the hosts for 168/6 in their season opener.

While defending 169, GT pacer Azmatullah Omarzai gave the hosts a terrific start as he took the wicket of Mumbai opener Ishan Kishan in the very first over. Kishan departed for a duck and was caught behind by wicket-keeper Saha.

Young batter Naman Dhir played an explosive cameo of 20 runs in 10 balls before Omarzai took his second wicket. After powerplay, visitors reached 52/2. However, former MI skipper Rohit Sharma, along with explosive batter Dewald Brevis, added a 77-run stand for the third wicket. Rohit departed after scoring 43 runs off 29 balls.

In the 16th over, Mohit Sharma took a stunning return catch as Brevis departed after smashing 46 runs, with MI still needing 39 runs out of 24 balls. Mohit then dismissed the dangerous Tim David in the 18th over.

In the 19th over of the match, left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson struck twice as he picked up the wickets of Tilak Varma and Gerald Coetzee. In the end, MI’s new captain Hardik Pandya started the over with couple of boundaries before getting dismissed by Umesh Yadav as the hosts won the match by six runs.

IPL 2024: Most runs (Orange Cap)

RR captain Sanju Samson leads the tally of most runs after end of match five of the IPL 2024 with 82 runs. KKR’s Andre Russell is at second spot with 64 runs to his name. LSG’s explosive batter Nicholas Pooran is at third position with 64 runs to his name. SRH star batter Klassen is at fourth spot with 63 runs to his name. PBKS all-rounder Sam Curran stands at fifth position in the list with 63 runs.

CSK left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman is still at top of the wicket-takers list of IPL 2024 with four scalps to his name. MI ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah with a 3-wicket haul in MI’s first game of the season is at second spot with three wickets to his name. SRH’s T Natarajan and KKR’s Harshit Rana occupy third and fourth spots with three wickets each. Delhi Capitals’ Kuldeep Yadav is at fifth spot with two wickets to his name at a good economy rate.
